Re Audtions

Post by mumamia »

Hi
Sorry to trouble you all again but my DD is pestering me to find out what the workshops are like
at the Brit School 3 year MT she is so worried about it and the audition is very soon.

Any advise would be a real help to her.

She also has a disability so concerned what might be involved we did tell the school all the information
on the application form so at least they know.

I have tried to look through the site using search and did find some posts but not about the workshops
for the older children.

Hi there:

I did find this on-line - it's from three years ago, but might be better than no information: (it's from yahoo answers)

hi, i go to the brit school, and in the first workshop you do jazz dance, a group song, and some improvisation. then if you get through that, then you do a private audition where you prepare a song, a monologue and a 1-2min dance of any style. if you need anymore info just ask :)

I found this too:
http://www.artstheatreschool.com/amyMurray.html

It does also say this on the Brit School site ( though I understand that she would still like more information):
You are invited to a half day workshop at The BRIT School which will be lead by the teachers who would teach you on the course.
You do not need to prepare anything for this workshop as we will be working with you in group situations to try to get to know you.
This is to ensure a level playing field for all candidates applying.
During the workshop we will be trying to gauge each applicants POTENTIAL in the three areas of acting, singing and dance.

Hi Pg
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply I will show this to my DD.
It is so hard when this is your 1st time and you do not know what to expect.
DD also has a NYT audition as well I presume this would be more acting based as not
NYMT audition.
Has anybody on this site done this audition?
DD knows that you have to do a monologue in the afternoon but a bit unsure about the
morning session.

The NYT auditions are workshop based in the morning - so movement, group work, improv etc. Among other things in this session they are looking for how well you work with others. Then they break for lunch and you should have a time slot for your one-on-one audition in the afternoon. They will ask you to perform your monologue and then ask you to deliver it in different ways so be prepared for that. DD was asked to chase after one of the helpers while doing her monologue and then deliver it looking out a window watching the scene happen.

She auditioned twice for NYT but never got in ... really enjoyed both days though and felt she learnt something new both times! Good luck to your DD ... let us know how she gets on!

Hi Sapphire
Thank you very much for the information I will show this to my DD.
i will let you all know how she gets on the NYT audition is not until Feb so a little
bit of time to go.
Do you think that a modern piece is better or Shakespeare for the monologue.

Really no idea about that I'm afraid .... my gut feeling is it doesn't really matter but it should be one your DD is completely comfortable with so she can cope with any crazy direction they might throw at her!
