My DD has been offered a place at Performers Birmingham. She’s thrilled but it’s difficult to know much about it when it’s new! Does anyone have any info they could share? For example, about accommodation? We’re planning on going to their open day on 23rd May and I’m hoping she’ll get a feel for it then.
Congratulations Jo to your DD for her place at Performers Birmingham! Sadly I don’t know anything of them as they’re so new. Hopefully we’ll have others on this forum who have knowledge of their location and potential accommodation. All the best to her.
Thank you! We heard from Performers yesterday and their open day includes a visit to the accommodation as well as everything about the course.
Meanwhile, she’s heard from Wilkes (the same email others have mentioned today) and is still on the waiting list. Isn’t this wait so painful!!

In Canada we don't have many options for musical theatre training, so my daughter has been auditioning for UK schools. Trinity Laban foundation year- thoughts? anyone know how many students they accept? They have been very frustrating to get in touch with, so not super impressed so far (although I do appreciate that between the numbers and covid it's been a very tough year). Even though she submitted her videos on time she wasn't invited to the audition day- she tried calling and emailing when she'd not heard any info about it, no response. Then received a rejection email (for the BA program). She reached out and asked if she'd missed something as it seemed hard to believe the entire MT audition was 2 songs... They told her she hadn't missed anything and then suddenly got an offer for the foundation program.... Seems a bit weird- is it just me? Anyway, as you can imagine we're hesitant to send her across the ocean and pay all that money if that experience is a fair representation of the school. Thoughts?
Well done to your DD on the offer from Trinity Laban. We went there for my DD to do a taster day for their BA MT a couple of years ago. Trinity are a good school, with a good reputation. On the taster day we spoke to current MT students who all seemed to be very enthusiastic about the place. The main building is a big contemporary building on the Thames. This is where we went for the day, but found out that this isn't where the MT department is based. It may have changed since then but we were told that the MT department is in an older building way away from the main campus. My DD decided it wasn't the place for her because she thought the teacher taking the singing class seemed bored, like he wasn't interested in taking the lesson! He really didn't sell it to her... which was kind of the idea of the day, lol! But this was just her one off experience, and like I said, all the students we spoke to seemed to love the school!

On another note have you heard from Arts Ed yet? My DD is still waiting.....
Thanks for the info MTDreams!! it's the foundation year, though, not the BA...Any idea if it's the same teachers? It was a no from ArtsEd- I can't believe you haven't heard yet! I hope your DD gets better news. Our fingers are still crossed for a spot from the Mountview reserve list...

That’s good re the open day and accommodation. That’s already a plus as for the Essex site everyone has to find their accommodation. Please let us know what you all think once you’ve visited on the 23rd. I know for sure once all things are confirmed for all our DC’s we deserve to put our feet up and have a glass (or bottle) of our favourite drink. This waiting and stress isn’t something I’d ever like to do again 😂

I shall put some info on about Birmingham once we’ve visited. And yes, we absolutely need a small (!) refreshment once everyone has their places confirmed!
DD is currently performing her final show at college, which is having to be filmed with no parents watching. Very sad knowing she’s on stage and I can’t watch. I’m sure we’re all in the same position with final shows etc. What a year!

Hi, in Dec 2019 me and daughter went to their open day. It was only meant to only be open for kids in the school year above her but daughter rang up and they said we could come along.

We both found it a lovely welcoming school. We had tours and talks and Q & A session and then they took the kids off to do various workshops whilst they gave us a parents talk and Q & A. The talks had both staff and 1st year students. My one criticism of it was not being open about their foundation. A parent asked the price of the foundation and was told they didn't know (the info of cost is on their website, I was sorely tempted to put my hand up and reveal this - but resisted). Even the student who had previously been a foundation student claimed they had no idea of the price as her parents had paid it (possibly true, but seemed odd). Another question was how many they had taken from foundation to degree there the previous year and the answer was 6 (unfortunately I can't remember foundation student numbers). Later parents were dismissed to go wait for their kids in the cafe and the students came with us. I got into conversation with a few of them. They all enjoyed their college. When I asked about not being very forthcoming about the foundation year info when it's on their website, the students said they didn't know why the staff had made a big thing of accepting 6 students the year before from foundation to degree as that was a higher number than in previous years when it had tended to be around 4.

The only things I can think of re them not knowing about foundation costs is either they did have clueless staff (who should have done their homework re this, it was a likely question to be asked!) or because they were making a big deal that it's one of the few fully funded MT degrees for tuition (the previous foundation student also enthused about this when the question was asked about price of foundation) that they didn't want a load of parents present complaining that it wouldn't be affordable to many.

Another thing asked was how many of their students got agents. The reply was the previous year it had been 'all of them'. Earlier though they'd talked about the history of the course and how they'd increased student numbers so many years in from 25 to 50 for degree. Again I asked the students at the cafe what year the increase in degree students had taken place and found their current 3rd years were the first year of 50 students, so the previous year when all students had found agents that had only been 25.

I see a previous answer talked about 2 buildings. The tour we were shown I believe was where the classes take place (we saw a dance studio for example) and only later did they take us to another building right at the end of the day. Both buildings were nice. We could have also bought tickets to stay and watch their show (3rd years I think) and I now wish we had, but it would have involved an overnight stay and we'd only booked to go visit 2 days earlier so hadn't planned it in.

Daughter really loved her open day there and applied this year, other than the self tapes of singing 2 songs, you were asked to list your dance experience/qualifications. The audition day consisted of an acting workshop. My daughter is an actor first, Trinity Laban was 1 of only 2 MT courses she threw into the mix to apply for because she'd loved the day so much. It was very easy to be missed though due to the amount doing the workshop together and daughter didn't think she'd been particularly noticed. After that there was an interview. She was sent a rejection email about a week later. She'd have jumped at the chance of their foundation. It's one of the few places she'd consider applying for next year too.

I found where it was situated a really nice area too. I hope this helps towards your decision.

It seems that most 'official' chat invites aren't sent out until you accept offers in our experience. Although there may be some unofficial snap chat type ones.

Sorry I have no idea regarding the teachers. My DD is doing a foundation at a different school and she has been taught by some degree teachers where she is so I'm sure there is probably some cross over with teachers at Trinity too. My DD has had a few friends get a no from Arts Ed recently too, but despite emailing them she still hasn't heard! Good luck with Mountview, one of DD's friends got in last year off the reserve list :)

Gosh, I've not logged on for 2 days and there's a lot going on!! Huge congratulations to those with offers - it's a really stressful time, especially for any of the DCs who are also doing their exams/assessments at the moment. As you know, my DS was sorted ages ago with Bird, and has accommodation so I am just grateful that we don't have to go through this. He's still waiting on Laine though, just to find out I think, although Bird and Laine were his top two. He had 2 recalls for Italia Conti and Urdang, was offered from Italia Conti and turned it down, but pulled out of Urdang before the recall because he didn't really want to go there considering his other offers. I genuinely think it's easier for the boys as there are fewer of them, and it's much harder for the girls as there are so many of them, so I really hope that you all have good news and are able to make some decisions soon.

Does anyone have advice for me not being from the MT world. DD has an offer from Urdang and on reserve for all others she applied to. She has just been offered a place at Mountview. She does not qualify for a dada, so we will have to find the money to fund the course, whereas Urdang is fully covered by the loan. I'm super proud and both offers are of course amazing and feeling very fortunate she is in this position (boy has it been a stressful process!!), but can anyone share thoughts, experiencs on why you would choose one over the other :-k

Is Mountview also degree but you need to top up? Or diploma.....as the difference could be dependent on what qualification she may prefer or the amount of written work. I know Urdang is a 10K dissertation at the end.....sorry that's not much help! But well done!
