Pre voc at 18

Post by Xxxlisaxxx »

Is it a good idea to do a pre voc at 18? Or is it more for younger students? Also anyone had any experience in using a career developement loan for this course? Thanks in advance

On DD's pre-voc their are students from 16 to 23 (only about 5/6 16yos I think, most of them were older)

Thanks Katymac. She had a pre voc offer from performers today. DD had a pre voc offer for performers today. As we couldn't afford both fees and living costs...we may have to consider getting a career developement loan. For some reason Urdang's foundation is not on the loan register (just their diploma), although I've heard some college's pre vocs are. Just hoping performers is one of them or she gets a diploma offer for somewhere else. Your DD has done really well Katymac...congratulations! Could you possibly inbox me any info regarding the pre voc at performers please? Accommodation costs etc
Thanks again

What's the loans register?

DD has really reasonable accommodation at £75 a week; but I think most is about £100 a week (someone pays £340 pcm all in)

The uniform cost us about £330 (no pointe shoes as hers were fine) but she needed an extra 2 leotards & loads of sports bras, trousers & spare tops for dancing in & the written work can be done by hand so not much real need for a laptop just a tablet for downloads etc

She's had to download sheet music & tunes quite a bit & as the show approaches the costumes are likely to be getting more expensive but I don't know yet

Her food has cost less than £25 a week, but travel has been expensive - taxis are £3 (I think) irrespective of where you want to go within the village which is kind of nice but I haven't worked out buses yet

Thanks...you've been a massive help. I meant the course isn't registered on the careers development loan list...hope performers is

Consider applying for housing benefit. You can apply if on a fe or foundation course and under 21. You also need to have the address of where you are staying before applying.
