Visions Agency

Post by Ellie8989899301 »

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience/has heard of Visions Agency, as I have been offered representation with them. They do not charge an upfront fee, so I just have to pay the £90 for Spotlight.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Eleanor.

If I have the right agency you are talking about they do have other fees, admin fee and photographers fee and you have to attend 4 workshops, I would also find out if there is a charge for these workshops, its doesn't say there is but then again it doesn't say there isn't!

Hi,
Yes, that's the right agency. I did see the admin fee on their website, but they haven't mentioned that to me. I have been sent registration forms to fill in, so I don't know if they will ask me to pay once I have completed them.
On their homepage, they also say that they like to meet potential clients beforehand, but they offered me representation without any meeting. Was it the same for your dd littledanceranna?

I wouldn't touch ANY agency if they are not even seeing you, a decent agent will want to meet and see just what you are like in order to fit you to the right briefs that come in, that's what you'll want aswell surely? Stay away in my opinion.

I agree. Stay away from any agency that doesn't want to meet you. You need to ensure you are right for one another.

I emailed them asking when they usually arrange to meet their clients because I read on their website that they do. They replied 'Yes we definitely like to meet our clients. We can arrange a meeting and you can bring your registration forms along with you at the same time.' What does everyone think?

Still no. They are saying to bring your registration forms at the same time so Have already decided they are going to take you on regardless of the meeting, so your meeting is null and void/pointless in my opinion.

Can I ask how old you are? If you are U18 then your parents really should be taking this on board and going through things with you but I'm glad you've sought advice here.

There are plenty of excellent agents out there. Just put your feet up for a couple of hours and read through the threads on this forum to find out all you need to know about different agents, what to look for and how to apply. If they think they can find work for you, they will take you on. If they don't then there is little point in being on anyone's books.

You may end up with offers of representation from more than one highly regarded agent, so it has to be worth the time and effort, doesn't it? All agents aren't equal and some are just a rip-off. I haven't heard of Visions, but don't get caught out through lack of experience or be blinded by the stars they can put in your eyes as they are taking the £ out of your pocket.

Just bear in mind that there is more to working and gaining experience than getting an agent. Although an agent will have access to opportunities, there is still a lot of competition for jobs and there is no guarantee that you will be cast in anything. So keep looking out for open castings, and build your own networks through things like local theatre and student films if you are interested in that sort of thing.

Good luck - let us know how you get on

As an adult I would say that paying an admin fee to an agent is a bad idea. (most NAPMers know that I think it's a bad idea regardless of age ;) ) An admin fee is an upfront fee in my opinion - i.e. you have to pay it before you get work. They can call it anything they like - but if it's something you have to pay them regardless of whether or not you are earning - then it's an up front fee. It's much easier to take on clients and get them to pay an admin fee that it is to get money from commission. It might not be a high fee, but they are not doing much for it are they? I also think that (despite the fact that the photographer's fee is low) that actors should always be able to choose their own photographer. Recommendations from the agent are great - and discounts are to be welcomed - but there should always be freedom to choose in my view. A link with a photographer is (potentially) another way for an agency to make money out of clients.

I also don't like the idea of attendance at workshops being compulsory. That's not to say that workshops are a bad idea - but I think it should be a choice.

I would not want to join an acting agency that had not seen me perform - that might be a showreel or and audition or a stage or screen performance. How can they know whether you are the sort of client that is likely to get work unless they have seen what you can do?

Also, you are in a very crowded bit of the market place. The likelihood of getting work is fairly slim, however talented you are - and how long will they represent you for? Will you be able to stay in Spotlight once you are 20 if you have not had any professional work? The rules are different for adult Spotlight members - so do check that out. I don't know whether you can stay in Spotlight as an adult if you have had entry as a young performer.
