& how many songs do they need to learn? Four? in 3 days? with sheet music? These are kids not professional

I think that is a bit of a poor show telling them with less than a week to go

& DD is a dancer so will be completely stuffed

All the kids there are at different levels...many will be absolute beginners.
not many will read music ( my DS doesn't) but if you want to experience musical theatre a massive part of that is reading the lyrics from sheet music..they don't expect the finished article - it's a workshop where they are on hand to give you guidance..
the last thing they would want is for anyone to stress out, it's supposed to be fun..I expect they would want you to be familiar with the songs only...

chill....I haven't spoken to one child who has attended the workshops who hasn't loved them :D

Can you find a version of any of them on YouTube? DS barely reads music, but if he can often follow along with the sheet music if he's listening at the same time, and can sometimes get quite a good idea of how the song goes that way.

Where would we buy sheet music?

How do we pick the songs?

we use this..

I would email them at NYMT and ask advice as they always have books full of suitable songs and music for those that are not sure and they would not want anyone to be worrying..

as for songs - pick MT songs that she enjoys and already may be familiar with and may be in her range..popular ones are from Wicked, Hairspray, Matilda, Les Mis Funny Girl, WSS, 13....

there are scores of examples on youtube

Her singing teacher won't teacher her musical theatre & in choir she is only used to doing high soprano in choral pieces

Working out the songs will take time (Chicago & Sweet Charity are favourite musicals) & then getting someone to play the sheet music so she understands it properly (drumming teacher has promised Saturday)

We will work it out - I'm probably more stressed than she is; at Urdang in Feb she had to sing a most boring song so this could be fun (off to Wiki Sherman bros musicals)

2 contrasting Musical Theatre songs

DD was hoping with help 'picking' songs - so this could be fun!

Sorry, I didn't realise you had to choose songs and provide your own music. I thought they'd sent some.

Thanks TalyaB - I think we could cope easily with that, or even if we'd had a few more days

But DD has a Music GCSE tomorrow so can't do anything tonight, & has to leave on Sunday about 12 to get to the course on Monday, Sunday night she will be with 3 small cousins so no time then either

4 songs over 48 hours-ish with 4 hours dance lessons and a couple of nights sleep #-o

It'll be fine :?

If you have time to get to a library you will probably find loads of books in the 'piano' music section. I have collected books for DD in the past and she has chosen something she knows and we have photocopied the sheet music. Not ideal but when time is short!

We need to have

"32 bar cut of any song that you'd like technical help with"

"Prepare and bring along two contrasting songs from musical theatre"

"Bring a song you have learned from any Sherman Brothers musical"

So where do we all go with that? What are you others doing?

We think we have come up with 3, all of which she knows slightly. She is hoping to use one twice - I'm not sure how that will work (we may pick a 4th for her to practice while she is down there - but 3 is enough for tomorrow)

She is packing after Ballet tonight, so she can spend all day (apart from class) working on her songs; fortunately her next exam isn't until 5th June with her final on 9th June - so she can put them on the back burner until Wednesday next week

I have calmed down a bit (& I feel a bit silly for panicking - DD was fine about it) but I need to find & order them on-line today plus a backing track so she can practise on the train/in London

I guess I am stressing about the entire thing and that made it seem bigger; she is getting the train by herself, then the tube, then staying with someone she has only met half a dozen times........it's quite big for me :( [-(

Just a wee warning - had a tip off last night ( how very 007 !! ) that the English Defence League are planning a large demo in London on Bank Holiday Monday.
Not been 100% confirmed but thought I should warn of the possibility ?
