Monologue's

Hi everyone,
My dd's got an agency audition in a few weeks and has to prepare a monologue, I was wondering if she had to perform it as though speaking to the agent or just pretend they're not there, any help appreciated, thanks xxx

Generally I would suggest pretending they are not there. She could ask the agent which they prefer. As an auditioner, I like to be able to observe without meeting the eye of the auditionee during a performance. She should choose to put the person she is speaking to very close to the agent but look just past the agent if possible: that way the agent gets to see her full face but is free to observe. "projection" is not necessary - she should keep it as close to real life as possible. Sometimes people make the mistake of placing their imaginary stage partner at right angles to the auditioner so that all they can see is the auditionees profile...

your dd could use a chair and focus on that - strategically placed, as pg said, best not to look directly at agent - but it does help having something to focus on
