If you are looking at the White Lodge or Senior one at Covent Garden, I think they select based on teachers recommendations and photographs. The places are very few and far between with about 50% going to students from abroad. I would not think they take beginners. BUT I have never applied for my dd and this is information I have gathered from another forum!!

I would agree with taximom that a beginner is unlikely to get a place :(

You have to send photos of specific ballet poses with your application and they effectively involve hours spent with your ballet teacher placing your arms and legs correctly and someone - probably your Mum, taking loads of pictures. You and the ballet teacher then need to go through the pictures chosing the best one for each position, and maybe then having another go and taking more if you haven't got a good one for a specific pose ](*,) ](*,)

If you have a good physique for classical ballet then that will count in your favour, also good turnout.

Once the application form is available in September (see here) http://www.royal-ballet-school.org.uk/a ... ms.php?s=3
you will be able to see the drawings of the positions they ask for.

My ds applied once , while he was attending Junior Associate Royal Ballet School classes and didn't get a place :(
He could go and he could shine, not just stay here counting time,
Son, we've got the chance to let him live

Hello, I took photos of my dd in our sitting room stood on an old door for the Associates and Summer School application. And she got into Associates! I was very niave in those days. I was told however that she was too far behind in grades for the Summer School, so I think experience is important, as unlike the Associates there isn't all year to bring those with potential up to standard. However, you've got to be in it to win it, so don't ever let anyone put you off having a go.
