Can anyone help with recommendations please - we feel like we're going round in circles between Uni's.

Daughter has a choice between LSC, Performers & Bird. She's turned down Italia & Wilkes for the right reasons, but we can't narrow down these last 3. Funding doesn't come into it (we will somehow find a way to fund the extra at LSC if needed). I'd just like an honest opinion from someone who has been there recently and can comment on the courses, teachers, future prospects... Any help really!!

She loved the audition days at all 3. Leaning more towards LSC but not 100% ready to commit to one place. 🤯

Before the auditions, she'd got her mind set on Bird as her first choice & Wilkes as her second choice. Now that's all gone out of the window and we're stuck in limbo.

Hi dancemum007

My Dd started at Bird in Sept. She also had an offer for Performers, & Laine, and waiting list for Urdang. She didn’t apply for LSC so can’t help with that one!
After all the open days & the auditions she thought all of them were fabulous courses, great teaching etc, and found it really hard to choose based on that. But her biggest take home she felt was down to location. Urdang ( and i’m guessing LSC🤷🏼‍♀️) is obviously very central London, Bird is 25 mins into central London on the train, but is situated in a busy high st area, with shops/cafes/ restaurants/pubs etc on the doorstep, and Performers is tucked away on the edge of a housing estate with barely any amenities close by. Speaking to students at the open days they all had to either drive in to Performers from their accommodation, or get the bus ( which all adds up) , and all said there wasn’t really anywhere to go out for a drink etc locally.
At Bird, Dd can walk to college in 10 mins, and they can all socialise without having to get taxis etc everywhere. ( Unless they want to go further afield of course!)

So i guess what i’m saying is think about life *outside* college too, and what your Dd is used to in that respect. Sidcup certainly felt the most like ‘home’, both to Dd and me .
Good luck with the decision, and well done to your Dd on 3 fabulous offers! ☺️

Edited to add my Dd is loving Bird so far. It’s obvs very hard work, but she’s 100% felt she made the right choice
☺️

I agree that if you can’t choose between colleges on the course, and funding isn’t a factor, then look at location next. My dd did Pre-Voc at Performers and could walk to college, there are a lot of houses available in the village/town, but there isn’t much to do around there. There are shops so they can walk to get groceries (Morrisons, Co-op) and all students go to the Inn, but for anything more exciting it’s getting to Basildon, Lakeside or London so a bit of a trek away.
After being offered Performers and Wilkes on degree dd chose Wilkes and this has a lot more facilities on the door step, not too difficult to get into London but not cheap. Agreed Bird is probably the best location due to being classed as London for loans but lower rent than central London, never went to LSC so can’t comment on location but worth looking at immediate error and time/cost into central London.
Also look at what teachers are brought in as that was a deciding factor for my dd on Wilkes, they can provide so much knowledge and experience in the industry so makes a huge difference, dd has gained so many hints and tips from them and has never regretted her decision to move.
Good luck! Difficult to have choices but not many have a choice so your dd is very lucky (and obviously very talented) xx

Thank you - I’ll be showing her your replies. I think we’ll go down & have another look round - travel the routes to the colleges from accommodation & spending a day/night out.

It is nice to be in a position to choose - the build up to the auditions was difficult as I’m sure it is for everyone. The first audition was a no from Urdang which put a dampener on things but she soon picked herself up & smashed all of the other 5 auditions.

Roll on September!

@dancemum007 As someone with no skin in the game, as my DS is an actor who moves and not a dancer, my impartial advice would be this: it sounds as if Performers isn't in the greatest or nicest location, and LSC costs more (what is the reason for this?). Bird, by contrast, is very close to accommodation, shops and cafes, and central London, costs teh same as normal uni and has a strong, established reputation. I think if I were your DD I'd be going for that!

Hiya, I don’t know much about LSC I must admit, but knowing a few kids that go there, they are dancers and that’s all they want to be. I have reservations about Performers for various reasons, but location is a big factor.
Bird is in a great location (I can almost see it! 🤣) so same as what others have said. Never heard of an issue with students in area either. Kids I know seem to love it and think the MT training is excellent, lots of training in all three disciplines. Haven’t got more solid comments unfortunately… but my dd would have taken Bird over Performers and this year, Bird is one of two top choices for my ds. He has a place already, just waiting for funding outcomes for the other before he makes final choice.

Update from DS so far, for BA Acting:

BOVTS : zoom done, no recall.
Rose Bruford: sent tapes, no recall.
Leeds Conservatoire: sent tapes, recalled but has withdrawn (see below)
Guildhall: tapes sent weeks ago, still waiting for news (long shot!)
RADA: tapes sent more recently, no news yet (also a long shot!)
Royal Welsh: zoom arranged for next week
Royal Central; recalled to pm on first audition day, recalled to Final Recall for Acting and for Devising course, did those about 10 days ago and is waiting for news. Loved it but thinks he's probably a bit too young at 17.
GSA: sent tapes, recalled, kept for interview and received an offer for BA Acting 4 days later!

Needless to say he is absolutely delighted with the GSA offer and unless something unexpected, that he doesn't dare dream of, happens, it is very likely he will be heading there in September. He's withdrawn from the Leeds recall purely because he is fairly sure he would rather go to GSA - not because of anything wrong with Leeds, he loved the course and the Course Leader was great at their Open Day, but he just feels GSA may have a little more clout with agents etc. He completely loved the GSA recall and really liked the tutors he met, so he'll be very very happy to go there.
Many congratulations to your DS!! Woohoo!! 🍾 🥂

One is really keen on Stella Mann where she has an offer, as she thinks she'd do better in a smaller college.
Does anyone have a child who's gone there and could answer some questions?
Well done for all the offers everyone, it's a tortuous process that's for sure!
Hiya, I don’t unfortunately, but wishing you lots of luck going through this process with twins!!

Well done to your DS! My DD is in her second year at GSA for MT and absolutely loves it. She is also friends with a lot of the actors as well as Mt and I am sure your DS will be very happy there if he ends up going :)

Well done to your DD! I would advise looking at the course content for each place, seeing how it fits with your DD's requirements. Also I think its really important to take into consideration class sizes, location and facilities, what career paths their graduates take etc. This way you can get a picture of whether it's the right fit. Good luck to your DD :)

Huge sigh of relief here as DS has just got an offer from Royal Welsh. He already has an offer elsewhere but wasn't really where his heart was. Still in shock and will take a while to sink in as it's been a looooong 14 months of applying/auditioning! He still has RAM and Mountivew recalls but so nice to be able to enjoy the rest of the process! Hope everyone is still hanging in there, it's certainly a marathon not a sprint!
