Cuts to arts training

Post by Moonfaery8 »

I have just seen that the government have confirmed the 50% cuts to arts subjects in Higher Education.
Can anyone explain what impact this will have on degree courses for musical theatre due to start this September and also next year. Thanks

As I understand it, it is the supplemental funding in addition to the fees that will be cut in half from £243 per student per year £121.
This probably will mean that there will be more ‘extras’ that students will need to pay or more places will charge fees higher than the loan like Mountview and ArtsEd do.
I lived through the reduction in funding of the vet Ned course in the 1990s as students we moved from getting our notes for free to paying for them, but we literally paid the cost of printing and binding them. I think we ended up in the 90s paying £60 per year for our full set of notes.
