Need some application advice!!

Hello everyone,

I need some advice, as I'm sure some of you have previously been in similar situations. When applying to an agency, some agencies require you to write to a specific agent. For example Troika - there is no option to write to all agents you must specifically email individual agents. Does anyone have any advice on how to choose which agent to write to? (Their client lists are all so diverse and mixed!) or has anyone been in the same situation?

Also, I know it's a long shot, but I want to apply to some big agencies such as Hamilton Hodell, Independent, Curtis Brown. There's nothing to lose! (I'm trying to change agents by the way, a lot of the work I am getting I am finding myself) I was just wondering whether anyone has ever heard anything from big agencies, or if they've ever actually responded to anyone? Would love to know your experiences :)
I have recently been working on My Mad Fat Diary, as well as music videos for Sam Smith and Mcbusted, so would like to think that I am deemed as experienced enough? :( it's a confusing world!

Thanks for reading :)

If you don't have any knowledge of particular agents, or if there are no clues as to the most appropriate one from the client list, then I would just toss a coin, I think.

If there are no specific instructions then you just have to take a best guess.

If one agent isn't interested, your application may be passed round the office.

I agree that you have nothing to lose - but being taken on by one of the top agents from an unsolicited application is unusual.

Music Videos don't generally garner much interest from acting agents as they rarely showcase much in the way of acting skills. I think the top agents will normally be looking for either fresh out of training talent or very high profile credits. Do you play a significant role in My Mad Fat Diary? Could you send them a link to a show reel where you are heavily featured?

However, who knows what they may be looking for? It could be you!

They're highly likely to want to see you in something before taking you on though.

Hi, I'm not trying to be negative but it may be worth waiting a few months before applying. All the bigger agents are going to the various drama college showcases at the moment so will be seeing a lot of potential clients. In a few months they will have more time to view postal/email applications.
