From this year Men C has a booster 13-14 & a catch up programme for 18yos going to college
But if your DC is 16 or 17 and going away to college they should probably have it too (at least they should if you do the whole vaccination thing - I know some people chose not to).
Men C is (apparently) rife in halls of residences and unis - so no reason why dance colleges should be any different

I am one of the nurses vaccinating the teens, and I really feel this campaign hasn't been publicised enough..
We have dwindling herd immunity and cover for Men c in the lower and upper teens age range, hence the schedule being altered to having a routine booster at 14 years now.
We had a great opportunity to get these teens in for immunisation, yet, I have hardly seen it mentioned in the media.

If a booster is due at age 12, would the doctor's surgery not contact you like they do for other vaccinations??

The booster programme has only just been altered and the 14 yr vaccination will be done at school , like the HPV- schools are also doing the catch up campaign but if a child misses it or has another reason not to have it at school, the surgery will then do it - if you bring the paperwork you will receive at school..
As a surgery we are only involved in missed routine Men c and the university campaign, the rest is down to your school nurses.
Edit - sorry it's 14 years - so far we have only done catch up - the school programme starts September.

The nruse at our practise saw DD about her asthma & found out she was going away. A few days later she rang to say that despite DD being the wrong age (ie finishing Yr11 not finishing Yr13) she should have it as she was doing the 'thing' that would put her at risk (moving away to college).
Normally she wouldn't get it until 2016
