Shakespeare acting workshops for 9-14 yrs, London

Post by lulapop »

In the run-up to Shakespeare's 450th birthday next year, the government is giving funding to schools, through the RSC, to support them in putting on a production. As this funding is not available to home education groups, a friend and I (both home educators) have decided to set up a home ed acting company for young actors aged 9-14 yrs, with the aim of putting on a production of a Shakespeare play in April 2014 as our first project.

Workshops will be taught by acting coach Dannie Lu Carr, who is very keen to work with young actors on this project. Dannie has worked as an actor, voice artist, acting coach, director, writer, public speaker and professional consultant (specialising in all issues around confidence, communications and creativity). Most recently she has set up Flaming Poppy Productions, of which she is Artistic Director. Dannie comes highly recommended, in particular by my sister who has been taking Meisner technique acting classes with her for the past year.

Workshops will be held on Friday afternoons from 4-6pm in Walthamstow, London E17, starting on September 20th and will cost £12.50 per child (£150 for a 12 week term, payable before classes commence). Although we're setting up the workshops with home ed actors in mind (and more specifically for our own daughters who would like to be involved in the Bard's birthday celebrations) we would welcome all young actors who would like to be involved, regardless of how and where their schooling takes place.

Places are limited so please contact me ASAP if you would like to take part or would like more information at homeedshakespeare@yahoo.co.uk

We are applying to a local charitable trust for funding towards putting on the actual production (venues, costumes, publicity, etc).

Best wishes,

Louise
