Can they not order them for you? I ordered the Grant Support Directory at a local library. I wasn't allowed to take it away but spent a few happy hours with pen, paper and paracetamol in the library.

They are thinking about it but there are 'funding issues' with buying them, apparently

I know a group of film makers who have done so successfully. I have seen a heck of a lot of unsuccessful attempts too. I think you have to be very imaginative and proactive to make it work - and, as you can see, you need to offer some sort of "reward". What are you hoping to fund raise for?

Hmm not too positive

DD got in to London Studio Centre & it's quite expensive; she is organising a charity gig so could give away tickets (ie pay for the tickets herself) or ticket to the end of year show. But they aren't very special 'prizes/rewards really. Her dad could give dance lessons or I could provide childcare/babysitting for a wedding/event or I could bake - but that's not really relevant

It'll have to be our wedding anniversary fund (20 yrs) & the Christmas money I guess....it's going to be frugal in the Katymac household this Christmas

Hmm. I'm not sure whether kickstarter is the right platform for that kind of thing.
It does say in the guidelines: Kickstarter cannot be used to raise money for causes, whether it's the Red Cross or a scholarship, or for "fund my life" projects, like tuition or bills.


I do sympathise. My dc had to do a lot of fundraising for their activities and studies.

I think it is almost always best to look locally first. There can be some surprising trusts and bursaries available (not necessarily huge sums, but still useful) at a local level. Your local library and your local council - or possibly even a local volunteer bureau/community hub could be good places to ask about them. Parish councils sometimes administer them or town or city councils. Quite often the application process is just a matter of a letter - though you might have to wait for their next meeting for a decision.

If you can get a local paper interested then you might also be able to get local businesses interested - some philanthropy from a local business is often good publicity for them. If she put on her own fundraising concert she might be able to sell advertising space in a programme or get a business to sponsor/pay for the hire of the performance venue.

Give your local NCVO a call - they may be able to give you access to fund finder software. And check out whether you have a Community Foundation in your area. They may administer grants for local philanthropists who are interested in supporting local young people or, if not, they may be able to signpost you further.

BTW DD got into the associate scheme rather than the college I was just so excited about it all, sorry

I don't know how much you have to raise but when I went to Germany I had to raise a little bit. I talked to the council and set up an Easter fair, then got shops (and others) to have stands there (they all got charged) then sold tickets to enter xx
