Help with Musicnotes?

I've bought some sheet music from MusicNotes & the computer plays them for DD - which is great as neither she nor I can.

Can we download them so she can practise on her iPod & if so how

If we can't where can we buy a baking track that is similar enough to practise with?

Hi Katymac,

I use Musicnotes to download sheet music and have only just recently discovered this fab feature of effectively using it like a backing track. I am also trying to get to the stage of DD having it on her iPod, so today, we downloaded the free app from iTunes. When you have done that, there is an option to log into your musicnotes account and upload all the tracks that you have so far purchased. So far, so good...I didnt manage yet to work out how to play them as the screen options are different to on the computer.....I will let you know if I succeed....and ditto , please post here if you beat me to it!

:? :?

Ah well; but it's a good site for backing tracks

But if we can figure the music notes thing we can have sheet music & backing track too (greedy aren't I?)

It seems to be or iPads & iPhones but not iPods

That is a shame

I guess the problem is DD needs the backing track & the sheet music and they need to be the same

We will work it out (probably by buying her an iPhone/iPad....but not this week)

The problem is that you are playing the dots mechanically, and musically it doesn't sound like anything I'd want to use with a live audience! It lets you know what the music sounds like, but it's nothing whatsoever like a real pianist. Rather like those rotten midi files people sometimes download and use - cringeworthy.

The trouble is that the musicnotes system is designed to be seen, not heard. Listening to the music by using the play button it's ok to perhaps use as practice, but it really is not musical. Professional musicians use a piece of software called Sibelius to produce scores - kids also use this at school, but even though it is expensive, it's not suitable for use as a backing track - musicnotes don't produce backing track quality audio, just a vague idea of what the song will sound like.

I kind of understand that

But singing with the actual backing track is quite different to singing with piano accompaniment (I guess - to be honest I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket)

& DD got 4 songs to learn at 3:30 on Thursday for 10m Monday (with a GCSE on Friday) so I was trying all the short cuts I could to help her out

At least she has an idea of the words & tune; hopefully the workshop aren't expecting (what I consider to be) miracles ;)

Back at last after a majorly busy week.

Musicnotes - I use it a lot as DD sings classical and good for her grades...I only just worked out that it plays the tunes as well as showing the score on screen, and being able to print from a computer.

Once purchased on computer, you can get the Musicnotes App on Ipad/ etc. This will enable you to VIEW only, there is NO sound option (for which we are gutted, the sound is much nicer for DD's RKA audition song than the backing track I purchased). Therefore if you want to use it for backing, it only works from a laptop/ computer.

Hope that helps...

:D

That's a pain - but good to know before I bought DD a new phone (she will be disappointed #-o )

I wonder if you can 'record' it somehow to use

I know it isn't as good as someone playing but it is better than no music at all or an arrangement that doesn't match the score you have
