Acting / Drama training

Hello,

I've noticed that some of the training places / qualifications are described as 'dance-based'. Could anyone advise me on the best places to look for training which is aimed more at acting with singing and dance being secondary to requirements? DD is best at acting but quite capable of dance and singing but would rather do drama training at 16 or 18.

Thanks :)

Have a look at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama's course - sounds what your Dd is looking for. Its a 3 yr degree course.

Most of the accredited courses for drama/straight acting do some singing and some movement/dance. It's probably best to look through the prospectuses for the various schools to see what the balance is likely to be.

It does depend a bit on whether your dd sees herself as a musical theatre performer (in which case she would be best to look at courses specialising in MT) or whether she sees herself as an actor who can also dance and sing (skils which are likely to be jolly useful to her). There are plenty of examples of actors who go in to musicals from drama courses but there is no doubt that the dance aspect is covered in far more depth by the MT specialists (and dance colleges obviously  ).

There are links to all the accredited courses on www.ncdt.co.uk. Hope that helps!
