audition songs - help needed!

Hiya! I've been asked to sing a song at an audition tomorrow evening - I'm not a singer so I have no idea what to sing. Does anyone have any advice? The character is in their late teens and I need something fairly easy. I have quite a soft, folky voice. It's not for a musical theatre piece but don't want to embarass myself! Thanks for your help.

Hiya - so sorry for not replying earlier I haven't had access to the internet! Unfortunately the audition fell through as they lost funding! But I'm still trying to figure out some good potential audition songs in case this happens again :)
And, as soon as funds will allow it, some singing lessons when I find out the right place to look!
Thanks for your reply :)

I'm still haven't found a perfect song! It's tricky to know what's best when you're not used to singing, I guess. And thank you for responding :D

If you aren't used to singing, pick a song that is well within your range, then learn it really really well so that your body develops a 'muscle memory' of how to sing it. Then you can focus on your performance and audition with confidence.

It takes time to drill a song in this way, but if you aren't a skilled singer such that you can sight-sing, or at least pick up pieces easily by ear, a technically sound performance may be enough to carry you through.

Start with a sing you like. That way you'll at least enjoy practising it over and over and over til you know without thinking where to breathe etc. of course, there's every chance that by the time you have perfected it you'll be really fed up with it

Good luck

Deb

I doubt anyone will want this one, but I've been working on an arrangement for a female singer in a country style band of a well known song. It's not finished really - but usable. I'm just waiting for her next requests. I had to try to squeeze in a country style steel guitar! So for any Beauty & the Beast fans - try this.
