I noticed that auditions for ensemble children for Oliver are coming our way shortly, the info I have seen says you are to email suggestions to her.
Does anyone know if they will be open auditions, can "I" email Jo with dds details or does it strictly have to be through an agent?

It doesn't have to be through agents. you can submit your child yourself.

My DD did Oliver in May and loved every minute. I took her to an open audition. Jo Hawes is very approachable and they tell you there if you are recalled or not.

I don't think open has the traditional meaning in this instance. I think you have to register with Jo first, I think it means open as in not only through agents.

Thankyou
I have emailed Jo and she is on the list, just thought I was better checking first rather than getting put on her naughty list

Actually I know that the girls are in the workhouse "please can i have some more" scene but what else do they do.
I should know this especially as I know at least two adults and one child touring

There are two 3 lots of children in Oliver.
The first are Oliver & Dodger themselves, they tour.
The 2nd is the gang. They have named parts and appear throughout the show. They also tour with the production I think.
The 3rd is the workshouse children. They are in the beginning only and are usually cast locally. They are mostly boys but there are a few girls. Apparently the standard of dance is very high, one of dd's dance teacher's had a student in the Manchester show and she taught her the main dance, it was very challenging but fun.

There are 12 girls and 12 boys chosen locally and put into 2 teams. They are not just in the workhouse scene. My DD did the Southampton leg of the tour and she was in 6 different scenes throughout the show. They will look at their singing first and if they like what they hear recall them to go through some tough dance routines. My DD loved every moment and can't wait to do another stage production
