A levels outside school...

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me. Again 
I am trying to decide wether to do BTEC Acting or A level Theatre Studies. I really like the look of BTEC but I wanted to know if anyone knows anything about taking A Level courses outside of school?
I know that BTEC work will be a lot anyway, but I'm trying to look into other things as well as BTEC, just in case. Any advice etc would be really useful,
