Check out some plays by Denis Kelly - Osama the Hero and DNA both have good comtemporary monologues for teenage boys.

My ds did a piece from X=O A night of the Trojan War by John Drinkwater. It's in verse. First performed in 1917 I think. Very poignant. My son really liked it.
In complete contrast, he also did a piece from "The Terrible Fate of Humpty Dumpty" by John O'Connor when he was about 15. (It needed quite a bit of cutting and pasting). It's a play about bullying, set in present day. It's quite dark.
