Swallows and Amazons

Post by daisyjane »

Anyone else seen that BBC films are set to make a big screen version of Swallows and Amazons next year. Sounds fab! To be shot on location in Lake District, with a "Bear Grylls / outdoor adventure" angle on the Arthur Ransome stories and they're looking for unknown actors - wahey! A chance for some our dd / ds outsiders maybe! Casting later this year - can't wait!

We love Swallows and Amazons. What an exciting film to be part of, we'll have to look out for this. dd would love it, but probably a little young.

Wow I live in the Lake District :D Don't suppose there's a redheaded girl in it? I can't remember - I read it aged 9, 7 years ago lol!

I don't think any of the children are given a particular colour hair so maybe it would work! The important thing would be that she would have to fit with her family group so get another redhead to go along with you!

Thanks for that lovely advice daisyjane :D I can imagine they might try to cast locally, but are more likely to find the right kids from the South/that are represented - we do have a few stage coaches in Cumbria though :)

In the Westmorland Gazette (local Lakes paper) about a month ago it said it wasnt being filmed in the Lakes but some scenes would be used for backdrops. Hopefully they have changed their minds!! The original children came from the South to the Lakes on holiday so you need to practice your RP wildgingerthing ;-)

It also said the children would be as the original film with no life jackets so get practicing your swimming in the Lake
