We've not done it before but I was trying to look it up only yesterday and can't get the link to SY website to work. Help! Is there a new one? Can anyone post what the weeks are and what they do in those weeks? Oh and the closing dates for applications?
Thanks

Both dd's have done SY summer school 3 years running a few years back. Absolutely loved it! Worth every penny - only reason stopped cos couldn't afford it any more, altho eldest dd had moved on quite a bit and thought she had out-grown it anyway. Highly recommended, esp if you don't do a lot of other stuff - really good experience.

We have booked for the second 'theatre skills' week (15-19th August) as DD is too young for the 'musical theatre' schools. we got a really good deal on a hotel too. 5 nights in a travel lodge in Covent gardens for 2 adults and 1 child for £202. DH and I are going sight seeing, hope it's nice weather. Never spent more than one night in London before (and that was only once). It's usually just a quick dash in and out for auditions, well when I say quick dash, it does take 3 hours each way on the train!

Thanks for posting the link GMN
You've done really well with the travelodge price francescasmum. We use that one but it's difficult to get a good price. Have to book a long way ahead usually

We usually book only a few days in advance but as I had confirmation of Francesca's place on the Sylvia Young summer school I thought I'd better book early 9as I'm a cheap skate) if I wanted both a good deal and a guariteed room.

Bump.
Does anyone know the dates of the musical theatre weeks? Ds was going to do the Hammond School dance one but it's actually the last week of term so we are having to rethink!
The SY website seems to be down again

I've had a fantastic time at Sylvia's - 4 years running up to the age of 14

I highly recommend both workshops they offer - but the individual workshops on stuff like circus, dance, audition technique etc if it's your first time, as musical theatre can be very overwhelming even for the older participants! I would say it doesn't have much to offer for people over age 16 - it becomes a little too stressful, and if you've already been then you've already benefitted the most you possibly can.
It teaches you how to really perform for the stage, you have to lose any shyness or inhibitions to get what you want, everyone is always very friendly and the staff are incredibly professional and tell it like it is. Not for the fainthearted, but eye opening and potentially very beneficial, especially confidence wise!

Flo didn't do the summer school (she chose West End Stage) but she was there at Easter. There were about half a dozen boys in a class of about 25. She's 9 years old (was 8 back then) so she was in the youngest age group.
She seems to have got a lot out if it. Some of the kids were incredibly talented and a few working in the West End and elsewhere. However, there was also a very small number of very precocious kids (girls, actually) and I noticed when I went along on the final 'parents day' that the teachers allowed them to dominate the classes, which was unfortunate for the better mannered kids there. I guess that this wouldn't happen in the classes where parents weren't present.
The course dates overlapped with our term time by two days, but Flo's head teacher agreed to register her as 'educated elsewhere' for the duration, which meant that Flo still recorded 100% attendance for the school year. One if her ambitions - if there's a certificate to be had, she wants it...competitive, huh?!
Because she was 'at school' we got a report to take back to her head teacher, which was glowing!!!

However, when she applied to their agency for representation a short time later, she didn't hear back from them. Hey ho....
Hope this is helpful
