My Dd is considering auditioning for the role of 'Debbie' in Billy Elliott coming up in March this year. Does anyone know what is involved, type of audition etc. I know the role is for the west end but we have only been given vague details so far. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe someone on here has been to a Debbie audition before?

My dd went for a Debbie audition for the West End, it was held in Newcastle. There were hundreds of girls there, all given time slots throughout the day. So, we did have a lot of time to kill whilst waiting for her slot. They went in in groups of maybe 15 or so. They played some games, did some acting (nothing serious) they had to be angry & they also had to swear. They didn't really do dancing. It was only those called back later in the day that got to dance. Then there was a further call back the next day for the ones that got through the 1st call back. DD didn't get next day call back, but as I understand it, that is when they really focus on the dancing. There didn't appear to be any consistency to those called back, the few that did from dd's group were quite 'serious' & if I dare say it, a bit tough looking. (I hope that hasn't offended anyone!) They did insist on a 'geordie' accent. DD really enjoyed the audition even though she wasn't successful. Like you, we had no idea what to expect. Good luck, I hope it goes well for her!

My daughter was called back here in the US for the part of Debbie. We were asked which show she would consider signing with (tour, toronto, chicago, new york, london). She had her first audition months before and was called back which was a great surprise. She had a very intensive dance portion of her call back where she had to learn some complicated ballet combinations and she had to read lines with the casting director. She is a strong singer so that was not an issue as she had sung in the first audition. They were very strict on her height. She did not get another call and is at the upper limits of height requriements so I am not too hopeful. The callback was great fun for her and they were very lovely to her. Very kind!
