Hi, they have their end of year tutorials and if everyone is happy then they automatically move into the next year and don't have to re-audition.

At the end of the year they have a conditional or unconditional offer (there is a third one but I can't remember what that is called)

About 4-6 children moved into the next class; the rest have stayed in level 1

Last year they had levels 1a, 1b, 2, 3, 4. this year it's 1,2,3,4,5

I think it is probably to do with the fact that they take much younger children onto your DD's CAT scheme, they actually have 6-8 years to progress through the scheme. They can afford to take their time with the students, building technique and strength.
It must be frustrating for your dd (it obviously is for you) to be in a class with much younger children but her teachers must feel she will benefit from this in the longer term by building up her ballet technique slowly and correctly.
As Puck says she has only been studying ballet for 12 months, she obviously has potential but her technique has to be right otherwise she will injure herself.

Just a quick post to say 'hang in in there' - I'm sure it will all make sense soon. Your DD is obviously very committed to her dance, and it sounds like she just needs to turn into a big sister to her younger classmates to get the boxes ticked. Not that that has much to do with dance...

If you want to make her smile, please tell her that 8 year old DD came out of tap dancing class today, not a very happy bunny. When I questioned her, she said 'mummy, Miss S calls my group the 'littlees' but I'm 8 now, so I'm not little any more...'

Awww - she's still little to me :D

I agree about the physical side; but I still worry about the PS&E stuff

Thanks

It's hard for me to 'see' it in an objective way; I spotted all the mistakes and bits she can do better - plus she has re-choreographed parts since the comp which look much better

But it really isn't Ballet is it? ;)

well...........neither is the dancing on "strictly" - but the professionals are simply amazing, versatile and can do ballroom like ANYTHING !!
there is work for all - they have proved that !!
She is very good !!
