Absolutely. And children tend to learn things quicker if they rhyme. The brief is seeking quirky children full of personality so if they find something about themselves that is funny and tell it like it has a punchline but still telling the CD something about themselves then it should be perfect. I feel that what they are looking for in asking them to do a monologue about themselves is to see if they can draw out the cute and funny kids who have no creative boundries and are able to come up with some quirky stuff.

Or maybe there is one interesting story about something she has done? May find it more easily flows when talking about?

On the monologue we've gone for a very basic "my name is....I live......I've got x siblings.......my mum and dad are......I recently went on holiday to........" with a couple of bits of humor along the way (hopefully). If we're up against poetry then ha ha ha!

Well that's us on the way home, seems my tiny little 7yr old was put in with a group of too notch dancers who were all atleast aged 12-15, hope it didnt scare him when in there! Anyway, lots of kids arriving again after us so narrows chances down somewhat but someone has to get it right?

Sorry to hear that. They may just have been bigger 11 year olds. They're all supposed to be primary kids. Are they calling some back in today then? Good luck to everyone.

No, there was no cuts, I guess kids will just hear through their agents if they are chosen, or through to a further round if there is any.

I know atleast two were definitely 14 and 15 because I heard them talking, all his group were practising doing backflips off the wall and the splits and everything else in the waiting room before going in

Not sure if this put him off or not, he didnt seem phased by it when he came out but who knows.

How did the others going today get on?

Well it was a an interesting experience! Thee was a wide range of ages in DD's group from about 6 or so up to 12/13 which I'm sure was intimidating for the younger ones. They all went in together and performed in front of each other and the panel of 5/6 people. They were told they would "hear how they got on" in a couple of days

Well I don't know what to make of it really!Dd is not a natural dancer but said she really enjoyed that part and did her own version of some streetish moves from what I can gather.(so that was a pleasant surprise!)She was pleased with her singing though they cut it short,though she didn't enjoy taking about herself which is what I expected,and found that very hard to practise at home too so we didn't really as she was getting too stressed.I know if I've ever had to do that on a course or something in previous jobs it can feel a bit uncomfortable!

Mouskouri is she good when she has a script? We just wrote something out and learned it like it was someone else talking which took any awkwardness factor away (my DD takes a while to warm up to strangers of you know what I mean!)-maybe something to think about for next time?

Yes fine with scripts.I had a few limericks I composed about a girl with her name,so it wasn't talking about herelf as it were,but by the time she decided which one she was happy with it was too late to learn it with the rhythm and meter aswell.But I definitely think she'll learn from the experience nonetheless.Generally I think it went well,she didnt feel intimidated or anything,and is confident in her singing. She doesn't like doing things in front of me as a rehearsal or practise though(no matter how great I tell her she is!)so these things can often be tricky!How do you think it went for your dc today?

Children will often gain more confidence with the more they do, particularly if all the other kids will also be having to do the same thing.

My 7yr old was the opposite today, could easily talk and sing, but literally has had only few weeks of dance class, so nowhere near to even being anything other than a complete newbie to it and he's pitched with 12-15yr olds doing backflips, splits, jumps off the wall etc, etc

The kids can only ever do their best and as long as my little man walks out happy and with a smile on his face then I'm really chuffed, regardless of whether a job arises from it or not x
