You both have my sympathies :D . It was a long way for my DD as well - 10 miles to station, 3 hour train to London, then tubes etc. All the auditions were in the morning so that meant to night before - yes it did cost a fortune - particularly with recalls at some places!!! Central have a HUGE number of applicants, they don't give everyone an automatic recall, but its a very high percentage. I think they just filter out those who are clearly not suitable first. It is all very hectic but its good prep for when they are there, as drama school life is incredibly rushed and pressured.

Well DS has monologues sorted (just needs to learn them!). Still debating about songs - Anyone give us their thoughts on Empty Chairs and empty tables as an audition piece? DS sings it really well and is very comfortable with it, just worried that its overdone at auditions and that will go against him? His alternative is Marry me a little - Songheim.

Also pre 1965 musical songs!!! All suggestions welcome - oklahoma? Pyjama game? Someone suggested 1950's ones are better. I am rapidly getting out of my depth her - please could you lovely peeps who know so much help!

Thank you! x

Empty Chairs is a really popular song which is sung a lot at audition and one my son was told not to go for due to this. Marry Me A Little would probably be a better option with this in mind. Have just spoken to ds who is in 2nd year and he said definitely go for Marry Me A Little as it is a good choice.

Good luck and keep us up to date with how your ds does.

DD agrees - avoid Les Mis. As for pre 1950s Cole porter is a good choice - good selection to choose from

Any one familiar with ALRA? DS is looking at it due to the tv element. Just wondered where it came in the pecking order....if you know what I mean ;)

DS enjoyed Central on Friday, managed to get through to the afternoon session, so was really pleased. He still feels that his age is against him (18 tomorrow!) for some of the acting demands, although surely the fact he is aware of the gaps means he's already half way there? ! waiting to here if he has another call back, said they would let us know by the end of the week.

Off to Arts Ed and then Guildford on Thurs! Anyone else going? I can't recommend this as a way of life - I am going to need new hair dye which specialises in grey I think! You'd think I would be used to it by now :) How's everyone else getting on?

Good luck with the rest of the auditions. My dd didn't get any further with arts ed or central. She is waiting to hear about her chichester audition. It's all very stressful! Got Manchester college,Liverpool theatre school and guilford to go yet too. she also applied to mountview but I don't know whether she will go for her audition as I believe it's very danced based, very much like she found arts ed to be like.

Mountview is not as dance based as Arts Ed - they expect some with dance training but some go in with only basics I think they stream to ability if she has ability in other 2 areas dont be put off

Chichester told my dd today after her audiion that they made their descion by the end of the day and instantly tell ucas so they would get to know ASAP. So it's now a waiting game. She keeps checking the tracking page on ucas hourly!
