Query about GSA.
Not sure if anyone can help but I keep hearing the GSA are cutting their intake this year for MT to approx 20 students as opposed to 36/38. Is this a fact and has anyone got any idea why? It doesn’t make sense to me and would like some insights.
We are still waiting to hear about recalls and figure it’s going to be a casting issue. With so few students they are going to have to be careful on voice ranges - can’t have 10 soprano’s and 10 tenor’s. Too much time to think!!!!
Yes that’s correct. We went to the talk and they said 20. We are also waiting for news and it’s been 7 weeks now. Trying to put it to the back of our minds as it’s such a slim chance. So far we know of one with a recall that applied about the same time.
DD just had email offering a recall. She submitted her tapes on 28th Jan if that helps others waiting. She is beyond thrilled as she applied last year and didn't get a recall
My DD sent her tapes off in January, she had an email from them last week asking for her to resend just the dance again and mute the music as they couldn’t play due to copyright Even though they sent them the music to use!! After a couple of emails they confirmed receipt and not heard either way since . They have definitely cut the year to 20 as we went for their open day talk .

I think it has probably got something to do with the Arts funding being cut at universities ,mine is 2nd year MT and loves that GSA is part of a university- she has benefited so much from uni life.
It's an amazing campus with beautiful grounds and facilities .
She is in a year of 36 and has very small group classes now, let alone a year group of 20.
There is a thread on here about the funding cuts, somewhere

We had a similar issue with music copyright! Had to resend via different format. Horrible way to audition.

Thank you. Such a shame. I really don’t think 20 in a year group is enough. I originally loved the idea that it is part of a university and you get the whole university experience and obviously a fantastic training. It may be a moot point for us anyway.

I was just talking about it with mine, she said she was jealous, lol but as a parent I think that too, just not enough to mix with or bounce from.
I said it would change a lot how classes would be run and possibly shows too.
I suppose that's the price to be paid by GSA being under the umbrella of a university - good and bad benefits, Surrey will have an increase in funding from the government for their STEM subjects.
Someone put a list up of places affected but I can't find it on here.
Best of luck with auditions
They just said 20 for each course, the lessons of dance etc are streamed across the 3 courses which does make it better, they didn’t mention (not that I heard) foundation.
Does anyone know if you apply for BA but aren’t quite right would they offer you foundation? Or would you have had to apply for that?

I’m sure I read that the had auditions for the foundation the other week.

Thank you. We have one firm degree offer, a call back for another and a first audition coming up which has been postponed twice. It will all come out in the wash!
Has anyone been to Trinity Laban? I’m interested to hear your thoughts? My daughter submitted tapes instead of attending a live audition which I can’t help but think was a mistake. Grateful for any thoughts on the school?

It might be different now but they did offer a recall for foundation if not suitable for degree as did Mountview and Arts Ed..
Arts Ed foundation now qualifies for £6,500 funding from SFE and I did hear a couple of years ago that GSA was going to do the same but with government funding cuts that might not happen.
I thinknthere will be lots of changes in the future with all drama schools

Three years ago when my DS applied for the BA he had a recall and was then offered the foundation. It was January and they wanted a deposit of £3k within about two weeks. He hadn’t finished his other auditions by then (Laine DADAs weren’t until April) so we let it go.
Wow, that’s a big ask!
Well she’s not heard from them so it might not even be and issue!
Just wish they’d reply either way… anyone else still waiting for GSA of some sort?
