LIPA high school

A friend told me the other day that Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) might be opening a high school! I dont know if theres any truth in this but im praying there is! as we are lacking any kind of full time training in the north under 16 (except for the Hammond). Has anyone else heard anything about this?
I guess it would make sense as they have a primary school, & HE drama school already, so it would seem the natural progression to also open a 11-16s school! Im just hoping its fairly soon if they do and in time for my daughter to be able to apply as she just missed out on the primary school as they opened the year after she started school so their oldest class will always be the school year below her . x
Also am i correct in thinking that currently the only full time northern performing arts school is the Hammond? or does anyone know of any more? x

LIPA have a 6th form, its a Free School. If they opened an 11-16 school they would not be able to audition for entry (their primary school has the same admissions criteria as other Liverpool schools (SEN, siblings, distance from home etc) 16-19 schools/6th forms are able to select on ability.

The only other school in the North I know about is a ballet school that's part of an independent school, Moorland in Clitheroe.

From digging a little further it seems the Admissions Code for Free Schools does allow such schools to select up to 10% of their intake on aptitude for a specialism. So its sort of possible but 10% is a small percentage.

The only school I know of is a state day school in Wakefield. http://www.cathedralacademy.co.uk/capa-juniors/ I'm not entirely sure how it works, whether you have to get a place at the school first and then apply to be in Capa Juniors. Someone at my daughter's drama left their school in the Secondary years to go there, not sure if they still attend. You'd have to live locally or be able to commute though. Unfortunately Capa was due to move their sixth form to Leeds and open up a lot more courses, DD had her heart set on applying their for yr12, but they've not been able to go ahead with their plans and have had to close. Unless they re-open within the next 2 years this sadly leaves my DD with even less choices for sixth form.

From reading their admissions policy it seems that there is no separate admissions procedure for potential CAPA juniors students but that CAPA is one of two educational pathways available at the school and there are 30 places per year available. The school follows Wakefields general admissions policy.

My DD goes to CAPA Juniors. There are limited places each year (32 in her year group). THe application form is online and they also run an open evening in September for interested students. If you apply they hold audition days, usually in October and you find out very soon afterwards. There is no catchment as such that I'm aware and I know of lots of students who travel from all over Yorkshire. My DD loves it - they've recently changed the structure so that academic subjects are taught in sets with students from the Cathedral Academy pathway which is working out well so far and means that students are taught according to ability. All Performing arts subjects and form time are as a CAPA juniors group. If you'd like any more info send me a DM and I'll be happy to give you more info.

My daughter is in LIPA 6th form and they were told that the Primary School - Little LIPA - has pupils who’ve reached yr6 now and are looking to progress them through to a LIPA secondary school.

I’m presuming this would be September, but she doesn’t know if they are just continuing within the same building or not.

It would make sense to do that and then the school grows as subsequent years come up and introduce new pupils, however nothing more has been said officially to them, but there is a LIPA High School website if you Google and they are inviting applications for YR7.
