Well she’s not heard from them so it might not even be and issue!
Just wish they’d reply either way… anyone else still waiting for GSA of some sort?
Yes we are, sent in first week of Jan.

Any idea on numbers for foundation?
I think they’ve cut the foundation to only 10 boys and 10 girls this year as well. It’s a bit crazy to think if you get in the foundation this year you would have got onto the degree another year. Those who do get onto the degree this year will be pretty special.

Does anyone know if you apply for BA but aren’t quite right would they offer you foundation? Or would you have had to apply for that?
I’m sure I read that the had auditions for the foundation the other week.

Did anyone make it to Laine today?
Yes my DD is at Laine today, and we’ve come from Cumbria! We did get an email yesterday saying if you couldn’t make they would rearrange for April. Not sure if may did made it or not.

Wow! That’s quite some way. We went as well today. Good luck to your DD x

I'm not sure you can equate Foundation offers with Degree offers from previous years or even this year to be honest. DD's friend has just had a degree offer at GSA but a Foundation offer from Urdang. Another has a reserve offer. Another was asked to complete Foundation forms on the day of his degree recall but hasn't been offered either. Twenty does however seem a very small intake but maybe the funding/staffing simply isn't there to keep the group larger? There's no rhyme or reason why some people get in and others don't with these smaller intake colleges - some extremely talented, hard working students get a no and some with potential but less experience get a yes. It does appear to DD to be linked to casting type plus diversity is now key. What we have found though is that nearly everyone we know is loving it at the college they ended up going to - whether first choice or lower on their list - and are proud to be there. Wishing everyone who auditions this year every success! They all deserve it so much. We went through it all last year - and understand your anguish as parents! Good luck everyone!

Really sound advice @amo185-Just need to remind DS that a rejection is not (always) a reflection on ability. It certainly knocks the confidence and I will be glad when this is all over! Wether it’s over with an offer remains to be seen but then that’s the price for DS applying to so few and the ones that take the least😩

I too will be VERY glad when this over although I fear we may have a few months of waiting to come with possible reserve lists etc.
So stressful waiting for emails!

Yes they do. Also, My DD got rejected the first year she applied, so applied for the foundation and got a place. She is now in the first year of the degree there, so it is definitely worth exploring all the options.

20 in a year does seem so small, but as dance is streamed across the whole conservatiore the classes won't be too small. Where as in other classes being in a smaller class means you get more attention and more 1 to 1 when you need it. As for the productions during the 3rd year they usually put on 2 at a time, with the year split between the 2 shows, so 17/18 in a cast. I guess with 20 in a year they may just put on the one production at a time or get the whole year to work on 2 shows at a time!

Also all the courses and year groups do socialise together, so the 20 won't seem so small. Not forgetting they spend their first year in halls living with people that are studying all sorts!

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a reply either way from GSA? We are sure she’s been
unsuccessful, but would be nice to get that confirmed so we can forget about it and move on. She sent her tapes off mid January.

Mine auditioned in mid January and had a recall 16th Feb and was offered a place around 22nd , this was just before covid hit in 2019.
Another student auditioned in December, had a recall and was offered a place in late March.
I would say it's very difficult to second guess what goes on anywhere to be honest.

Also Foundie year has always been under 20

20 does seem small compared to previous year's intake but Acting student have always faced this, lot smaller class numbers, so fewer places to audition for.

My daughter is on an Acting foundation course, which has 20 students (19 actually as 1 dropped out a few weeks into the course) divided into 2 classes. It's not been a problem there's been loads of advantages from all students having weekly 1-1 singing lessons and a lot of personal attention. The 2 groups combine together for their productions (and even with this low a number not everyone gets a main part!) which have been 2 over the time of the course, their contemporary before Xmas and their Shakespeare next week, shortly before the course finishes (it's not as long as a year where she is)

I went to an open day in December 2019 with DD. (It was actually aimed at the year above her she was yr12 at the time, but she rang up and wrangled herself a place -lol). It came across as a lovely friendly welcoming school.

Later someone who had previously attended my daughter's sixth form college and gone on to train at Trinity Laban, graduating in 20202, mentored my daughter through some of her pieces (the lockdowns and a staff change meant daughter wasn't getting the training we'd anticipated when sending her to her sixth form place). Though daughter wasn't successful at Trinity Laban and is on a foundation at Rose Bruford and has decided to stick to her strength of acting for subsequent auditions, I do think if Trinity Laban ran a straight acting course it would be on of daughter's top choices based on how lovely she found the college.

Her mentor has gone on to be in panto, on the UK tour of Heathers and recently put she was making her west end debut which I think was a concert.

FiFiD wrote: Fri Feb 18, 2022 9:34 am Heh Lawn, can I clarify, if your UCAS is full and sent and you are already in the process of auditioning, can you add more through CUKAS? Am I understanding correctly? My DD has done all of this so I’m not clued up at all, and it would be good to know she can add some extras?
My DD has done it all too for the 2nd year running which I'm grateful for as a lot of this has me lost.

My understanding is both Ucas and Cukas had deadline dates of last month - did your daughter apply on both? My daughter for the past 2 years has filled all 5 of her UCAS choices, something I found frustrating year when some had said no and others were still pending and she couldn't add another till a later date. Mine doesn't fill all her Cukas though, so I'm unsure if that means she could add another at some point. I will see if I can ask her if she can explain more.
