Just a heads up. For Bird They can get a free bus pass through TFL as they will be living in a London borough so don’t discount a small bus ride away.
I had the mad scramble to find landlord accomadtion for my DD and one lovely lady explained it to me as I was insisting it had to be walking distance for cost as well as convienance!
Good luck on finding somewhere. I think I got lucky but I had to accept without visiting the property to make sure she got a room!
Unfortunately they don't qualify for free bus travel if doing the degree and are Over 18. You can get a discount Oyster card which gives you 30% off weekly passes but not individual fares

If you're under 18 then you can get free travel

Here's a link to the TFL website that explains the 18+ rules https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/a ... 18-student

Ah yes of course I forgot my DD is only 16! My bad! Still a discount is not too bad.
Talking to Mum’s quite a few students live a 10 minute bus ride away. Some also cycle or run (that makes me tired just thinking about that in the morning!)

Worth checking the fares table - Pay as You Go Fare on a bus is £1.50 Daily Cap of £4.50 7 Day weekly pass for 18+ is £14.80 so a 20p saving on 5 days journeys, but it also gives them 'free travel at weekends'

For those outside London, you can't pay cash on a bus at all, just Oyster or contactless cards

For those of you going to bird. Student accommodation in halls is available at Avery about a 10-15 min bus ride. You can have an en suite room in a flat of 6 - great way to meet fellow birdies. Uni of Greenwich to apply for a room. Well done guys good news about degree moves.
Pm me about halls DD spent last year there.

For Bird you need the Zip 16+ card. They will stamp the form in the office and you can get free bus travel for 18 year olds as the card is for ages 16-19 and Bird have signed up with TFL. Well you could in 2014 at least! My DD used it for year 1 of the degree.

I thought its only foundation students that are entitled to this ?

No foundation aren't allowed this - PPFY is not considered Further Education by TFL so won't issue Oyster Card - Only really applies to Diploma under 18 or those who are still 18 by 31st August

Omg, thanks everyone, extremely useful to know, as halls looking more appealing and was thinking about the addition expense of bus travel. I believe we’re waiting on log in info for registration to uni, but as soon as Dd has this, we pretty eager to sort out living situation.

In DD's hall flat there were foundation and first year students. There were a few flats with bird college students so plenty of people to meet. The flats have a shared kitchen diner. The individual rooms have a fridge so you can have a kettle and make a drink in your room too if you want some space. DD is now going to flat share with one of the girls she met in halls. There is a campus bar ( they are often too tired to go there though!) The only downside was probably that some of the non bird students in other blocks could be a bit noisy sometimes when birdies were getting up early but not that bad. It's £155 per week I think - not really cheap but I felt it was really safe secure and friendly.

Just got back from seeing the Bird Summer Show “Destinations”

It was amazing, couple of technical issues with mics but that was the theatre’s issue not te students

Blown away by the talent on stage, and excited to think my DD will be up there next year

We were there too last night, it was such a great show. Ds is shattered as it's been intensive rehearsals but certainly the hard work has paid off

Had a phone call Wednesday from Performers offering place on diploma with full Dada, DD was on reserve list for a place! could have done with this last year when she had a place but no funding. She has turned it down and staying with Urdang, big decision to make as she has gone for the Advance Learning Loan for Urdang. So places are still being offered and Dada's!

Does anyone know why Millennium are saying that student loans will not be available for those starting in September? DD is going into 2nd year and their loans haven't been approved yet since we applied in May but they are saying that continuing students will be ok. What is going on? There must be major panic amongst first years if this is the case.

Is it because they didn’t get through Designation in time? At The QAA inspection last year they didn’t meet all requirements though they were re-evaluated this year & passed (that report was published a few days ago by the look of it)
