She has split soles but her teacher thinks for the current style of Tap they are doing she will get a better sound with a sole
so What should she buy?

I would get your DD to see both what the other girls are wearing and check with the teacher if she has any type in mind.
DD's tap shoes as uniform were Oxford style with teletone taps (unisex, full sole, laceup) but for performances she always had to wear shoes which were more like new Yorkers (so quite high heels) but obviously with tap plates already fitted.
I've posted links for examples but do shop around as there is a huge variance in price on tap shoes, even for the exact same make and model.
