peel talent

Post by di47 »

HI my daughter has an audition for these next week for a cruise ship. She is a singer. She has dance experience but is not a dancer. Can anyone tell her what to expect has anyone else been for these in the past . Thanks.

Same as jomist, can't tell you about the audition etc but one of the ships I worked on all the entertainment hosts, dancers etc were from Peel.
Compared to the entertainment staff on my previous ships the ones that worked for Peel were a lot more down to earth & much nicer. I didn't get to see many shows as I was working but what I did see was fantastic. Really good quality shows that always get good audition reaction & feedback :)

Your DD will obviously have seen off the website what to wear and a little of what to expect. Friends of DDs who have been to cruise ship auditions as singers, though not necessarily PEEL - have told DD to expect a long day. There are usually more dancers there than singers but still be prepared for hundreds and for a long wait. Her friend at a recent audition registered at 9 am and sang at 3 pm. It is likely to be a long day. I don't think she should worry too much about the dance element. From what I gather some cruise ships require singer/dancers or dancers who can sing but on many cruise ships dancers do not sing at all as singers are hired to do all the singing. PEEL talent recruit for a number of cruise lines and so will be looking for all sorts of people. Several of DDs friends have worked on cruise ships as singers and had a fabulous time. Good luck to your DD.

Thanks for your reply she can only try amd knows the com petition will be fierce. I thought peel only recruited gor thomson ! she has a friend who works on one of their ships. One thing that may go against her is Tney ask if ur available from Nov till next yr and she is contracted for panto for the whole of Dec so hoping this doesn't go against her.

jomist wrote:As far as I am aware (having worked on Thomson ships for almost 10 years) PEEL do only supply Thomson, inc Island Escape which belongs to First Choice, part of Thomson, and believe me, they are the most amazing ships to work on. They may not be the great big glitzy all singing all dancing 20 deck 5,000 passenger American liners but the crew spirit and friendliness is second to none as is the entertainment.
I thought the same about it just being Thomson & Island Escape that Peel supply for.
You're right about the crew spirit & friendliness. Socialised much more with all departments on a Thomson ship, even got to know the officers etc. Smaller crew means you are much more part of a family and have a more personal experience.

di47 good luck to your dd :)

One more question my daughter is quite worried about is do you have to be a size 8 ! she has heard this. She Is not big a healthy size 12 and feels this may go against her as she's presuming most will be 8/10s .
