Italia Conti, Arts Ed & Performers?

Italia Conti, Arts Ed & Performers?
DD's dance teacher is quite keen on Arts Ed & Performers; as I understand it:
Arts Ed is 2 years Level 3 at 16 then level 6 at 18, and Arts Ed is like a private school so you pay for the level 3
Performers is level 6 at 16 & eligible for a DADA
There seem to be 2 (or more) Italia Conti - one is eligible for a DADA & one isn't, is that right. One seems to do a level 3 at 16 but for free, is that right?
Is that right or have I misunderstood somewhere?

I know that Arts Ed do give DADA's out at level 6 so would have thought that the same would apply for the level 3, but don't know for sure. I am sure there is somebody far more knowledgable on this site who will correct me if I am wrong.

DADAs are only available for level 5 & 6 diploma courses so you are correct that level 3 is either free or fee paying depending on the school. DADA is linked to the qualification/course so you could not have it at Arts Ed on the level 3 course but could for the level 6 course. Performers is level 6 and DADA and 16+ as you say. Italia Conti - I think one is in London and does the level 6 diploma/DADAs and the other one is in Surrey but I don't know anything about that one.
In any case I believe you have to audition for all courses. I may be wrong but I do not believe there is automatic progression from the level 3 to level 6 at Arts Ed. I think you do still have to audition. I am sure your list katy gives out other schools that offer the level 3 diploma free.

They do, but DD is more interested in these
I think her idea is to audition for the level 6's she wants to go to and then to pick some level 3's as a back up.....but not Arts Ed (at least I don't think so) as that has to be paid for.
Stageworks & Italia Conti are favourites, but we aren't sure which others

They do also offer a 2 year BTEC with funding http://www.italia-conti.com/

Complicated stuff !! So basically am I correct in saying "that at 16 there is no way you could do the degree course and also apply for a dada" ?

Re: Italia Conti, Arts Ed & Performers?
Sorry Bruno - I know nothing about degrees at all; hopefully someone will come & help us both
Re: Italia Conti, Arts Ed & Performers?
Degrees are for 18+. and you can't get a dada for a degree but you can get a student loan.
Bring it on!!!

My ds is at Arts Ed doing a MT Degree. He shares a house with four other students also doing the MT degree and two of them have DADA's. They are not able to get the student loans though. Those without a DADA are able to get the student loans.

Re: Italia Conti, Arts Ed & Performers?
I am just wondering whether what I have just put is totally correct. All those on ds's degree course were actually accepted onto the diploma course. However, "the course is also validated by City University offering the voluntary option of a BA(Honours) degree which carries a one off registration fee". Maybe that is how you can get a DADA for the degree course then. Sorry, I have probably confused everybody even more now!!!!

Re: Italia Conti, Arts Ed & Performers?
bruno2 you are correct - a DADA is only available for the diploma courses. From the website " You must be studying for one of these Trinity College London Diplomas:
Level 6 Diploma in Professional Acting (3 years)
Level 5 Diploma in Professional Acting (1 year)
Level 5 Diploma in Professional Dance (Classical Ballet or Contemporary Dance) (2 years)
Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance (3 years)
Level 6 Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre (3 years)"
It goes onto say that dance is available 16+ and acting only from 18+
I would presume that at Arts Ed the students doing MT will be taught essentially together but those on a DADA will graduate with a level 6 diploma and those on loans who have registered for the degree with City University will graduate with a BA Honours Degree. This will have had an additional amount of theory or written work to gain the degree status.
My DD is on a level 6 diploma course in dance and there is a course by Middlesex University for those with the Professional Dance diploma to gain the extra 120 credits needed for a BA Hons Degree in Professional Practice. It is distance learning as it is designed so that students can study whilst carrying on with their professional performing activities. This information comes from Trinity College with their DADA information sheet.

Re: Italia Conti, Arts Ed & Performers?
Performers has open days on 14th & 15th November I think; but I haven't seen them for the others yet
Re: Italia Conti, Arts Ed & Performers?
Hiya, my DD and I went to the Performers foundation year end production in June as we wanted to decide whether to take up a foundation offer there. We thought the quality was very high so we accepted the offer and she is starting in 3 weeds time (so excited!) but I do believe Performers College is definately a good one. she really liked the 'feel' of it when she auditioned, and I was impressed with what I saw on audition day.
Re: Italia Conti, Arts Ed & Performers?
Thanks katkit, It is an exciting time for them isn't it; we've just been on holiday & DD was half "I can't wait for the auditions" & half "this time next year I'll be half packed
and ready to go"
I think we will try to go to this Open day
