NYMT Half-term Workshop

Post by Katymac »

I thought it deserved it's own thread as there are at least 3 of us with DCs going (& I was getting fed up talking to myself  #-o ).......would anyone else like to join in?

So, are the children meeting up?

Have they sorted out their songs?

Is there a uniform requirement (specifically for the dance classes)?

Are you letting yours out at lunchtime (seems a bit pointless keeping DD in as she has to get there and back each day by herself)?

Is your DC excited?

Hi Katymac

My DD is going but only for the first 2 days as she has a photo shoot in Herts on the Wednesday.
Her vocal coach teacher has organised her songs for her and I've printed off the piano music from the website riverdancefan mentioned....brilliant site there, thank you =D> =D>

Not sure if we will be able to meet up before they start on the Monday as we are staying out of the M25 and travelling but I will also possibly have an extra DD and 2 grandparents in tow so it may not be possible to make a rendezvous....we arent the most organised  and not sure if we are all making the trip or one / two / three etc etc

DD has sorted her own dance bag out but I know she has dance sneakers / jazz shoes and poss ballet shoes in there as well - just to cover all possibilities
I know she's excited but a little anxious on the singing requirements as she's not confident at solos yet but I'm sure once she gets there she'll be fine.
Quite happy for her to go out at lunch as long as there is someone with her that has a better sense of direction or lordy knows where she could end up !!

You wont be able to miss my daughter - she is reasonably tall and incredibly ginger

Mine isn't tall but is mixed race (half Jamaican)

She has Jazz & Ballet shoes too - but is a bit worried about the first day dance class as she doesn't know what Dance or Singers & Actors is #-o

Her teacher knows the dance teacher on the second day so she is really excited about that, but like your DD she is struggling with the songs & wants me to download them on to her iPlayer so she can practise - but I don't know where to download 'piano music' rather than the karaoke version

DD is travelling by herself so I just guessed they could meet at registration & chat about their mums & the internet

Katymac - our DD's have met & I am now redundant !!
They have SO much in common & are both reassured that they are not natural soloists !

The singing wasn't what she expected but the dance was amazing - so the exact opposite of what she expected

It was lovely to meet your DD Katymac - what a gorgeous girl she is. Both her and my DD got on like a house on fire !

My DD loved the first day of the NYMT course which was vocal technique and dance workshop for actors and singers.
Unfortunately she was very disappointed in the second day which meant she left with quite a disheartened view of the whole experience.

Its probably something we will raise with NYMT but some comments were made to DD which didn't serve as any constructive criticism and to be honest, she found quite upsetting. Not good for someone who can struggle with confidence issues anyway and I'm quite cross about it :x
But all in all she had a great time and a very well run series of workshops

Isn't that odd - DD felt exactly the same but with the days in the other order

Day one (the singing) was unexpected and disappointing with a feeling of being without worth (totally "which didn't serve as any constructive criticism and to be honest, she found quite upsetting") & Day two (the singing) was amazing and supportive with lots of positives

I think it goes to show that a good rapport with a teacher is the most important thing and that different people learn in different ways; my DD struggled with the teaching on Day one & enjoyed the teaching on Day two and for your her experience was the opposite.

Of course we are both talking about 'reported' views from teenagers........
