Re: Pageants
I'm not keen, personally. I don't really like the judgement of someone's "worth" by their outward show. I'm well aware that appearance has an influence in lots of areas of show business mind you.
In the area where my children grew up, there were "Carnival Queens" and "Attendants" - I know a lot of little (and bigger) girls enjoyed it, but I was rather relieved that my dd was not interested and nor were her immediate circle of friends. I'm not sure quite what I would have done if she had wanted to get involved. Yet another parenting dilemma of how much you allow your own principles to dictate what your children do!
I know that these days, there are pageants that involve male competitors as well as female, but it is still dominated by pageants for girls. That bothers me too. I think we could do with getting away from judging a woman's worth by what she looks like.
