Those who’s dd/ds’ have done the 1 day summer workshop at EDA, I was wondering if everyone is asked to sing their song of choice or do they only ask those they are interested in. Also, do they scout for potential students on the day for their courses and what happens after. Thank you :)

Hey Ditzi

My DD did a 1 day workshop there last year, the Dear Evan Hansen workshop. As part of her day there was a session with the singing teachers, where they went around the room and each sang a section of their song. But they ran out of time to get through everyone. Then there was an acting through song session with a guest teacher where 2/3 got the chance to get up and sing for him. DD was luckily one of the ones selected by said its completely random.

They do indeed scout for potential students on the day. Each session leader is scouting all the way through and jotting names down. From her workshop she received a letter inviting her to a recall a few weeks later. In the recall they essentially did the same thing, a session in each discipline where they got 'marked' out of 5 from each of the sessions, so an acting class where they each did a monologue in front of the class, a dance class where they perform back in small groups and then a singing performance in from of Emil himself and the singing teacher. Then the day ended with an interview with Emil and the teachers discussing what course you'd like to do if successful, your strengths/ future plans, financial situations, if you would like to apply for a scholarship etc.

Then I think it was a around a week later, letters were send out with results, DD a full scholarship to the 3 year course! :D

She absolutely loved the audition process, not sure if its the same now but her workshop was free, and so was the recall, and they get to spend a full day there. It was worth it just for the workshop!!!
