Does anyone have any experience with the SLP college audition. DD is auditioning there for the singer/actor course and yet according to the letter the first thing she will be doing is a ballet class. She will also be doing a jazz class with dance course applicants . DD isn’t a terrible dancer but she definitely isn’t at a very high standard either (she’s probably grade 5ish in jazz although hasn’t done a grade in a while and she has no ballet experience)
Can anyone advice how dancey the audition will be and are the looking for dance abilities more than singing/acting.
Also she has to cut her songs to 1 minutes each. Does anyone have tips on the correct way to cut songs ?

Re: SLP college
MY daughter auditioned there last month for the Musical Theatre course. They don’t decide until after the audition whether to offer singer/actor or singer dancer for the MT course.
She was turned down but offered the dance course instead. They said her acting was not high enough standard & in singing they were looking for soloists but that her dance standard was too high for the foundation.
She felt the standard of dance was varied. She & her friend are Adv 1 & Adv 2 ballet but the person taking the class reassured everyone that they were expecting varying levels & not to worry. She though that most auditioning for MT were not that high a level but she didn’t know about those auditioning for dance. Her friend was offered a place in the singer/dancer course.
One of the student helpers gave a talk saying that she really wasn’t a dancer but more of an actor/singer.
If they offer for you to stay behind at the end of the day for feedback I’d take it as it was really useful.

With regards to cutting a song that can be tricky,I would imagine they want 16 bars of a song or possibly 32.
If you can find a verse and chorus that shows off the best part of the song and your DD'S voice -it's hard to find that sometimes,we have had to go through loads to find the correct/ best bit to sing.
It is amazing when these auditions happen that they are all so different .
