DD's new showreel or is it a dancereel?
I'm not really sure but anyway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pyw_3gn_-d0
I think I'm getting better at editing - but any tips would be gratefully received as the learning curve is steep
The one we would send to jobs has her contact details on the last page...

That's great - well done to you both!

I think this is great! Well done to you both. Your DD is stunning ... I love her hair!
Re: DD's new showreel or is it a dancereel?
Thanks everyone; her hair is a sore point after years of tying it up for dance a teacher suddenly said do all your auditions with it down & it was hard learning to dance with it flopping around
I'm getting better at the video editing, at least I think I am

That's great Katymac! Two really good reels there
Re: DD's new showreel or is it a dancereel?
It's a displacement activity; I'm stressing so much about colleges
I've also revamped & tidied my sewing corner, archived loads of documents, tidied my hard drive & office cupboard - I'm so stressed!!
I did a third one tonight & I've run out of DD's videos - I think I'd like to try with someone else's videos to see if it's a DD based activity like ballroom & latin costumes or a more general one that I could do for anyone

Re: DD's new showreel or is it a dancereel?
I hate to say this but you need to get used to the waiting. Take heart from the fact that she at least has a funded offer for a good college, regardless what happens with the other 2 and it is up to her what she makes of her opportunity. As for the waiting, it is not uncommon when auditioning for dance jobs to be put 'on the books' for a company with a 'we will contact you within the year - yes YEAR - when a suitable position is available.'
Back to the showreels - are they for a purpose or for fun and practice. The filming and editing is really good but I would have 3 suggestions for improvement if they are to be sent for any dance jobs - one is clothing - DD has always been told and auditions always call for clothing that is formfitting - so nothing tied around the hips and the second is to get your DD to do something on a diagonal so it is not all facing the camera. The third thing is that companies that ask for showreels often want to see kicks, leaps, turns and pirouettes.
Your DD is a lovely dancer though and you are getting a dab hand at doing showreels. By the time she graduates you will be an absolute pro! I'm afraid my DD has had to do hers all by herself.

They are just for fun - I'm really enjoying doing them & there is a certain amount of it being a displacement activity to keep my mind off things.
Some of what you said was about the filming & I agree; I can see now why professionals use more than one camera - I'd like to have a go at a routine filmed by 2 cameras from different angles or even 3!
I also think I'd like a more powerful editing tool - Windows Movie Maker is quite limited I think. I'd like to be able to zoom in or at least alter my viewing distance. I'm not sure enough about using effects between the clips, I do wonder if they just look like someone playing with their 'new toy'.
Clothing & steps I'll have to leave to her (opinionated madam that she is )
Thanks so much for taking the time to give me such good feedback - everyone I show it too is 'wow you can edit video!' when I do need actual tips - I wonder if there is a course I could go on
