Starpower dance comp

Post by Flowerdew »

Hi has anyone's dance school or dc taken part in this competition? We are entering this for the first time this year and wondered if anyone has any experience of it? Thanks.

Yes, dd and dance school have done this.

Very American glitzy but good fun, if a bit of a long day !

Are you dancing, or vocal ?

We've entered for dance but have a couple of song & dance numbers. We have quite a big entry of Solos, duets, trios and groups. I've seen some footage on Youtube but that was mainly the American competitions it looks very different to the local festivals we usually enter, looking forward to a new experience! We are used to long days though!! :D

We are doing this for first time too this year and very excited. My dd is convinced it will be like an episode of "Dance Moms".

I searched for starpower uk on youtube and those videos looked a bit less scarey than the USA çompetitors :)

The timetable is out now and we are there both days

Good luck everyone :)

Hi all,
My DD's dance school have entered for this years competition in May.
Sounds really glitzy and as others have said, it appears to be very different to the normal dance festivals they usually enter.
She is really looking forward to the event and excited by the challenge it will bring. I will keep you all posted on how she and her dance school get on.

Hi Livvyvicky,
sorry for the late reply.
My DD's school are performing a number of dances. These include solo's, duets, trio's and troupes.
They are busy rehearsing at the moment and are very excited and looking forward to the whole experience.
My DD's Head teacher has asked her to compile a blog, so she can share her experiences with her peers.

Just to keep you all updated, my DD dance school did very welll at Starpower and they have now been invited to attend the world dance championship in America in August. As you can imagine, she is absolutely buzzing.

Will your dance school get to go?

We got a golden ticket too but the fundraising needed was just too steep :(

Hi,
Since May, the school has been raising monies through bag packing, fun days/events and donations etc. for the 12 dancers who attended Starpower. They have managed to raise enough money for each child for flights & accommodation. Parents who wish to attend, will be required to self fund. It can be done, but you need the support of the whole dance school, not just the parents of the Starpower children. We have been very lucky because as a whole, parents see this as a fantastic opportunity to showcase the dance school and know that next year it may well be their DC attending.

That's fantastic!! Good luck to you and hope you have an amazing time :)

We worked out a minimum cost per child which included funding the dance teacher and two chaperones but there was no way we could get our act together in time.

Would be fab to see a UK team do well ... Fingers crossed for you

Have you got a just giving or gofundme page you would like to share? :)
