This has been sent to me by a site member, it possibly raises the need for us all to be aware of strangers.
On Saturday morning, I was hoovering out my car and noticed a man in his late 50's/ late 60's with grey hair and beard, across the road. It looked like he was fiddling around with a drain cover. A couple of moments later, I realised that he didn't have any high vis clothing on, nor a work van and when I looked up again, he was gone.
Shortly after, I had gone back in to the house momentarily whilst my 4 yr old was sitting on the sun lounger in the front garden. Our dog started barking and growling quite aggressively and I immediately went outside but couldn't see anyone. Obviously I got my daughter back indoors.
A couple of hours later, my husband came home and noticed a 'stop cock key' which is a long thin metal pole used for opening drains was by our garage door, so putting it all together it seems that this chap was either a) attempting to break in and attack me before clearing the house out. or b) god forbid, a possible abduction. The bizarre thing was that the metal pole was actually dumped in my neighbours garden the night before and they had picked it up and put by their garage, so this person had gone into their driveway, picked it up and then come over to me (presumably seeing that the front door was open.
I was in the local shop this morning and the owner showed me an article in our local paper describing a man of the same description attempting to snatch a 7 year old in a nearby area. Whilst this could all be coincidence, simple things like not letting your children walk or run too far ahead of you from school, not allowing them up to the park and not letting them out the front of your property, even if the front garden has a wall and gate (which was open at the time) on their own could save devastation.
Obviously, I contacted the police who have now put this out to all units and the intelligence team.
Ensure children are well aware of 'stranger danger' because sadly, in this day and age, vigilance seems to needed all the time.
