REVOLTING CHILDREN

This Summer, Stagebox presents 'Revolting Children!' a five day musical theatre extravaganza at the Northern Ballet. Children ages 7-13 will learn songs, choreography and scenes inspired by West End musicals such as Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Annie to name but a few!

ABOUT US

The course leaders are Daisy Jacobs and Laura-Jane Keston. We are both experienced performers in theatre, television and film and have taught extensively across the UK. Credits include: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (London Palladium), Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat (New London Theatre), Insect Play, Confusions and Run Rabbit Run (Theatre Royal Haymarket, London) Take it Interns (Edinburgh, C Venues), Novello Theatre, Opera North UK Tour, Royal Albert Hall. TV and film credits include The Safe House (ITV), Seeing Red (ITV), Tati's Hotel (BBC), Dinatopia (Hallmark films), Bridget Jones Diary: Edge of Reason (Miramax), Monica Giltheart and the Magic Pencil (RTS) and various commercials and voice overs. Both co-founders performed together at last years Edinburgh Fringe Festival which was awarded 5 stars from WhatsOnStage and nominated and won various accolades including Musical Talk's, 'Pick of the Fringe'.

We have also led numerous courses in musical theatre and drama. Daisy was one of the founding members of the Theatre Royal Haymarket Academy, London (2009-present) and has taught LAMDA examinations to young children since 2009. She also founded the Bristol Old Vic Young Writers' Scheme. Laura-Jane was awarded the Vice Chancellor Scholarship for Drama and Music at the University of Bristol. L-J has also worked for the prestigious Redroofs Theatre School (alumni includes Kate Winslet, Joanna Froggatt of Downton Abbey and Lucy Benjamin to name a few).

Redroofs are endorsing our Stagebox adventure (see http://www.redroofs.co.uk for more details)! All staff members will be CRB checked and have experience working with young and special needs children.

THE COURSE

This exciting five-day workshop is suitable for 7-12 years old and is designed to cater for all abilities. Based at the Northern Ballet School, we will lead acting, singing and dancing classes every day with the focus on producing a workshop performance at the end of the week. There will be group performances, duets and solos! We will teach the children choreography and songs from 'Matilda the Musical' and 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' amongst other famous musicals! We want to nurture new talent and will ensure that every child feels comfortable to maximize their potential and ensure they have fun this summer!

Singing

With an accompanist, full warm ups and coaching will be given on songs and acting through song.

Acting

To include script work based on Roald Dahl's most famous works and an insight into the technique and discipline required of young performers in today's industry!

Dance/Movement

Musical theatre dance and movement based classes- fun and energising routines with a focus on building confidence and performance skills.

There will also be various activities on offer including arts and crafts relating to our Roald Dahl Theme and creative drama games!
