The first year anyone gets in, they do what's called an Intake Acting Course. Age 14-17 is Junior, 18+ is Senior. Once they have done that, they are a member of the NYT till age 25 and can then apply to do other things with them. If your DD is first on the reserve list, I'd be pretty confident she'll get a place.

DS did the Junior course last year and is waiting to hear from this year's auditions. They worked in groups of around 25 and his director had a very impressive professional CV. DS had a great time and also said it's the most intense thing he's ever done and that he learned more than he did in Matilda, Billy Elliot and NYMT. There was a short 'sharing' rather than a show at the end, so parents got to see very little of what they'd done, and apparently it was the first time they'd even shown that much!

Got the email last night - it was a 'no'. Thankfully, DS was absolutely fine about it. It does mean we can book our summer holiday now, so it's not all bad news! Good luck to all those still waiting x

Thank you for your replies. We have been holding off booking our holiday, but are not really any clearer. I guess a lot of people pull out due to the cost implication, quite understandably. we will have to see what happens

It was actually a yes for DS but the dates are a total and utter clash with NYMT so we are gutted to have to say no.
No way round it.
Try again next year , hopefully they liked what they saw and will give him another shot.

Well done to your DS - that's amazing! It's a shame he can't do both courses (but it does mean that someone on the reserve list is going to get a nice email).

That's true - someone will be happy on the junior reserve list Monday :D
TBH we couldn't afford both and DS wasn't expecting to be offered both so it was a nice boost for him, hope everyone who participates enjoys themselves, it sounds amazing!

Anyone at the gala recall today? DD2 said she had fun but, as ever at NYT, loads of very talented, older and more experienced people. Apparently Paul Roseby was there, so very intimidating all round. She's got this far before so is pretty pragmatic, although VERY taken with the idea of sharing the stage with some of the alumni if she could wangle a place!

DS did the Intake Acting course last summer, and auditioned in February for this year (though we don't know what for exactly). We were told we'd hear by the beginning of May, and then had an update to say we'd hear by the end May - we still haven't heard, though I know some of his friends have. Has anyone else not heard?

I think lots of people got a standard e-mail from Paul Roseby on Friday, I don't know if it was the general rejection e-mail or more about the Euro elections and plans because DD1 got one and she didn't even audition for a project this year! It was a-we really are trying to do lots more this year and there may be more opportunities- type message.
DD2 got the general e-mail and is taking that as a rejection from her recall but we're not really sure!
Did you get the general one on Friday? If not maybe he's still being considered for a project and we'll assume DD2's was a definite 'no' after the recall.

Thanks, totallycluelessmum. I didn't realise there had been recalls! We've heard literally nothing, so we'd better assume its a no.

I had a newsletter yesterday, but I don't think that was connected to the application for this year at all. DS is 15 so hasn't been able to apply for any of the opportunities that have come up this year.

they seem to get recalled for a specific project and it can be really late, DD2 had two one year and this year only heard last week so there's still hope! Having said that she says she usually is one of the youngest, she's 17 this year, and loads were in their early to mid twenties so hopefully loads of time for ours.
