Re: Newbie: audition for Ghostwriters

A lot of the time castings can be last minute, often less than 24 hours notice. Oh yes... we just had a recall where they let us know at 9pm on Friday evening for an 11am Saturday morning. One of the others there had only found out at 7am... fortunately they hadn't been out on Friday night and had ...

Re: Parenting a performing arts child

I think it depends on the age of the child, exactly how aspirational they are (and how likely their aspirations are to turn into work) and how flexible your job is. I have an 8 year old DD who is very, very keen on MT. She currently does 2 x modern, 1 x ballet, 1 x guitar and gymnastics during the w...

Re: Acting Kidz - some info and advice for a neebie please

Worth doing a search for Acting Kidz on facebook (try Acting Kidz audition as well). Also have a search on here. They are ridiculously expensive imo. My DD is auditioning for an agency soon that is pretty selective and they only charge for Spotlight and headshots. Acting Kidz don't even mention the ...

Re: Daisy & Dukes

Thank you for all the info - really helpful! They've been in touch since we put in the application - offered to submit DD for a casting under their name even though she's not on their books yet. DD was already on the audition list so we didn't take them up on it, but I was v impressed with their com...

Re: Anyone with Acting Kidz?

What age is your son, are you London-based, are you looking for MT, theatre, TV, film, TVCs or anything in particular? Also does your son train in dance, singing, acting etc and/or have any experience? Plus, are you up for the horror that is being a parents in this industry (my husband swears he is ...

Re: TTA Abacus Bam

Abacus are very well regarded. One of the three we are looking at.

Have they announced their audition dates yet? DD is supposedly on the list when they next open their books but haven't heard anything for a couple of weeks.

Re: Anyone with Acting Kidz?

Personally I would pass... Had a quick look at their FB page and website and: a) several negative reviews and very few positive ones b) they seem to post pictures up of everyone who is going up for auditions. I know pretty much when all the WE audition dates have been in the last 12 months and they ...

Daisy & Dukes

Couple of quick questions if anyone has 'been there, done that'... DD should have an audition with them shortly and was wondering what the format was - do they take them off in groups or do I have to sit there in the same room? How selective are they as an agency? Also, is there any opportunity for ...

Re: New and in need of help

13 is a bit of a tricky age - children need chaperones and tutors and licences alongside legislation which says how many hours they can work and so on. It's much easier and cheaper for directors to hire young looking 16 year olds who don't need any of this and can play the 13/14/15 year old roles. A...

Re: Sylvia Young new to all this

Congratulations to your DD! We are in the same position but a couple of years off still. I have a DD who is very bright but also dyslexic and just doesn't seem excited by academic subjects. Was a bit of a shock to DH and I who expected to produce geeky bookworms who would be heading down the academi...

Re: Chichester Triple Threat.

A lot of academic degrees have very small numbers of contact hours. The first degree I did, back in the very early '90's, we had 6 hours lectures a week and one group tutorial for an hour each week - so only 7 hours contact time per week. My siblings had a similar experience on their academic degree...

Re: Not hearing back after Recall

I think it's awful of them not to let you know - especially considering that it is a child who is auditioning and that they got recalls. There was a campaign on this very topic early this year - might be worth contacting them. Otherwise, an anonymised letter to the Chairman of whichever production c...

Pop/Rock songs?

DD's singing teacher is trying to find some new songs for her that are a bit more pop/rock focused (but still age appropriate in terms of content and lyrics) that will make good audition pieces. She's got a slightly unusual voice for her age (just turned 8) - a two and a half octave usable range, a ...
