Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry
Hi, thanks for the replies to my interview question. Sorry, I have another question! We’re applying for musical theatre 6th form at Emil Dale and we’re trying to fill out the ‘what makes you unique?’ question. We’re really struggling with this and wondered if anyone could give us some tips on how t...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry
Hi, my DD is applying for musical theatre 6th form and I just wondered what sort of questions she should expect at the interview? I guess they may be similar to those asked for professional training or maybe not, but if anyone has some suggestions, they would be gratefully received. We can think of...

Re: Number of hours for 6th form courses
27 hours a week average over the 2 years, but this the first term of the second year is much heavier with audition prep.
In general 2.5 hours each ballet and jazz, 1.25 hours each tap, contemporary, commercial and MT dance.
About 5 hours singing.
About 4 hours acting.
About 6 hours academic stuff.

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry
Headshots are just in, is that beautiful young woman really my DD. They are learning their audition dances and narrowing down the songs and monologues. As for the forms I have no idea they have a class every week at college for audition prep in which they discuss forms personal statements, whether t...

Re: How soon do you hear back post auditions - 6th form
Read - auditions Thursday offers on Monday. Like the degree/diplomas they make full offers and waiting list. Full offer you need to make your decision within 14 days and pay your deposit which you would forfeit if you pulled out. Read was DD’s first choice and first audition so she accepted and we c...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry
Hi All, thanks for the previous replies about the Open Days. We've hit a brick wall, we were getting all excited booking the open days and looking into auditions and I've just found out that they can't get Student Loans at 16 for the Diploma. I know she could possibly try to get a DADA but it would...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry
Hi all, jumping on post as my DD will be starting her auditions soon for next year's intake.......scary! I just wanted to ask do most people go to the open days? We are in Cornwall so to go to each of the schools she's interested in just for a morning or afternoon will be a bit of a nightmare, shou...

3 inch New Yorkers seem to be the most common this is what needed for Read and all her second year and foundie friends haven’t needed to buy new shoes for the next stage.

Re: DD unsure whether to pursue FT training at sixth form
At this point last year my DD suffered terrible anxiety that she had made the wrong choice doing performing arts for sixth form. But two days at college reminded her that it was for her. I hadn’t realised how much school wasn’t for her until she went to college. She had always gone to school and wor...

Re: Cuts to arts training
As I understand it, it is the supplemental funding in addition to the fees that will be cut in half from £243 per student per year £121. This probably will mean that there will be more ‘extras’ that students will need to pay or more places will charge fees higher than the loan like Mountview and Art...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry
We went through the ringer in December 2019 and DD got a place a Read for the sixth form OCR extended diploma. So it seems a very fast two years to be looking at degree auditions now. She has been advised she should be applying for the Triple Threat courses and college have suggested that probably h...

Re: To do A levels or not
BTEC or OCR extended diplomas are equivalent to A-levels and enable entry to degree courses - when we looked strong GCSEs combined with a good extended diploma would enable entry to not only the vocational degrees, but also dual honours such as history and drama. As history A- level is not a require...

Re: 6th Form - LMA vs LIPA
Don’t base her choice on where she thinks she wants to end up now. Look at outcomes of both schools and the training they would provide where would she be most happy and enjoy. My daughter is the lower sixth now, this time last year GSA was where she was thinking of long term. After two terms of tra...

Re: Lesser known performing art 6th forms
If you are in Berkshire have you looked at Read College based in Reading? DS has a couple of friends who went there and have both been successful in moving onto great colleges. Also coming to this late, but my daughter is lower sixth at Read can’t recommend them more - the upper sixth all have offe...

Re: All colleges open on 8th March ?
Read have had full timetable getting more academic units out the way that instead of physical theatre and ensemble singing. Lateral flow tests on Tuesday and Friday this week with full timetable on line on the other three days, then full time in college from 15th.
