Re: Auditioning for 2016

Totally agree. There are no guarantees in this business! After DD going through the auditions last year, I can only say go with your gut instinct of where seems the right fit. The auditions do give a good feel for the place and style of teaching. There are lots of things to consider as important suc...

Re: Auditioning for 2016

I saw this blog a while ago from The MTA Online and thought it was interesting, and probably explains why the newer colleges are not accredited. While they may not be big rivals to the top colleges yet, there does seem to be a few quite successful colleges not on the list. http://www.thepublicreview...

Re: Auditioning for 2016

Other degree courses are London College of music, Trinity Laban and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Bodyworks are looking to offer a degree but not sure if it's starting next year. Good luck!

Re: London College of Music

I'm not sure if chichester do a showcase in London. It's probably worth checking out before applying or maybe at the open day if it's not too far away. It does look more vocational than other unis but no doubt not as much time training as the drama school options. LCM definitely do a showcase in cen...

Re: Musical Theatre courses that are NOT too dance-based

My dd is also more actor/singer and has just started at LCM (see previous post) which I can recommend. She also applied to Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Chichester which are more triple threat but take people with less dance training. I'd say Arts Ed are still looking for a very high level of ...

Re: London College of Music

Yes we found the same with UCAS options. The others we put down were CSSD (again more acting) and Chichester, which has a MT course with a range of options similar to Urdangs pathways. It looks quite good but my DD didn't like it at the audition although she did get an offer.

Re: London College of Music

My DD started there this week, so early days to form an opinion, but loves it so far, and good reports from 2nd years she's spoken to (it does have a high student satisfaction score). It is very much an actor/singer course so suited more to the lesser dancers maybe, although there are dance options ...

Re: Pre audition courses

GSA do MT and acting ones too. DD did the longer summer ones last year and found them very good and I thought they were good value. Can't speak for these shorter ones that are weekends in September and October but they look similar. http://gsauk.org/courses/pre-audition-courses/

Re: Auditioning for 2016

That is so harsh Jaybeeyellow. It does seem unfair to compare something like A level Maths with BTecs. I'm sure the rules come from the university, and wonder if this is why other drama/music schools are connected to what are considered 'lesser' universities. My dd did a mix of A levels and BTecs an...

Re: September 2015

We've still heard nothing from Italia Conti either. If this train strike goes ahead I doubt we'll be able to get down next Tuesday anyway, and I don't think it will be worth the extra time and expense of staying longer in London sadly. :( :x

Re: September 2015

Great news Lorry! \:D/ \:D/ My DD is still deciding between LCM and Italia Conti (with Chichester as a UCAS 2nd choice option) - no more auditions left for us. We're taking a trip down next month to have a proper look round at LCM to see if it helps us decide, as I didn't go with her on the day of a...

Re: UCAS Points

That's true, but my experience this year has been that none of the dance/music/MT exam UCAS points have counted at all! Both UCAS offers have stipulated that the points must come from her A levels and BTECs. Considering this is for Musical Theatre degrees, I'm not sure what courses would count them!...
