Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

Thanks for your response. Yes she has already done a 3 year Diploma in Musical Theatre at a London Drama School. She wants to pursue acting though. Their 1 year diploma is changing into a Masters in Professional Acting so it gives an ideal qualification and we would get funding. She would not have ...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

Thank you. Yes I have done that. Was just wondering if anyone has any personal experiences with this school Hi, can't give you any personal experience but there aren't that many of us on here with DC who do straight asking, most are MT which is why you may lack answers. Is this like a foundation co...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

MTA always seemed a lovely school and the Principal used to post here but yes I've always thought funding attending there was an issue for many. It used to be suggested that students take a Career Development Loan to help with costs but they ceased a while back. Add in that households are facing a l...

Re: The end or the start - who knows

For those that already had degrees, do you know what subjects they were? 1 was in music, wasn't from a drama school (ie it wasn't an Actor Musician degree) but I believe it was from a London Uni (possibly Royal Holloway???) . The others I'm unsure what their degrees were in, but included an Interna...

Re: The end or the start - who knows

I suppose they don't usually move students from the 1 year core to their masters as there is an additional year that can be taken after the core (even if the 2 separate years can be stand alone). At the same time I suppose they don't get usually get students like your daughter who have already done ...

Re: The end or the start - who knows

I do remember when I was noseying around some drama schools websites last year, noticing that a few places don't accept students onto their masters until they are 21. I believe Arts Ed was one I looked at. If she spends the next year working, looking at open auditions, is able to do some travelling ...

Re: The end or the start - who knows

Congrats to your DD on finishing her training. Oh gosh though, Covid and lockdowns messed up a lot of education, PA and otherwise. I still feel we're playing catch up with my DD, as she only got 6 months adequate training on her 2 year sixth form course - not helped by a staff change either! So mine...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

Thanks lotsolaffs, dd does love the sound of GSA, the rent/maintenance loan scenario worries me a bit but we’ll have to cross that bridge if/when she comes to it. As GSA is part of the University of Surrey, the first year she'd be able to stay in Uni halls. They have a lot more reasonable starting ...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

Bit of advice needed if poss please. Just booked dd on GSA open day (can’t believe I’m starting this all over again) and wondered how long to give us to look round? Oldest dd’s open days were more or less full days with classes etc but GSA (as it’s part of a ‘normal’ Uni) doesn’t look like it runs ...

Re: Maintenance loan

Is this her first year? I suspect it's because you missed the May 20th deadline for new starters. So have we because DD hadn't finished all her auditions by this date so didn't know what she was doing. So they give something to start off with and then re-adjust. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/ap...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

Anyone wondering if they'll still be movement if their DC is on reserve lists, then yes there could be. DD has confirmed today to IC that she is taking an offer elsewhere, so someone on reserve for foundation acting will be offered the place.

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

The students ar ArtsEd who are awarded the diploma are those on a DADA. The rest - the vast majority - are awarded a degree. I believe DADA recipients get a degree awarded too. They're all on the same course - it's just how it's funded. DADAs, if awarded, are based on household income from the prev...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

I think amos post makes a good point about funding and why others have declined. Before making any phone call MimisMum I'd have a look at finances first. I've no idea how Arts Ed offer degree or diploma but consider how much will need paying in top up fees for degree, how much the Dada contribution ...
