Re: Sheet Music for Audition

A student of mine did 2 minutes of popular for an audition, you just cut it yourself..

Draw distinct lines in pencil through the bits you dont want to sing.

Re: GCSE Music

Definately look at the spec - the pieces are given a difficulty factor and your mark is multiplied by that so you get more marks for performing a harder piece well than an easier one. However in my husband's experience what he would consider a difficult piece technically for singers (He is a vocal c...

Re: GCSE Music out of school?

The problem is Nicola that the controlled assesments for example one of the compositions are 10 hours (not including research time) spread over a number of weeks and this is usually done in class. A similar amount of controlled time is allocated for recording of performances. One of the exam boards ...

Re: GCSE Music out of school?

You might find it more difficult to do this privately due to the way that controlled assessments have to be done under exam conditions. Private teachers wouldn;t be able to register as an exam centre easily it costs quit a lot of money so you would still have to enter the exam through a school or co...

Re: parents and drama school

Well most drama schools offer degrees you are just as likely to be unemployed on graduation doing an english degree than a drama degree.

Re: How much dance each week?

Your dd is unusual in that she is doing the ballroom and latin alongside the other dance. I think it is combining that with CAT that makes her seem like she is doing so much.

Re: How much dance each week?

Not silly question Katy. Its panto/Chsristmas play etc season. We are all doing the big taxi service. You know what my dd does from MN but as an example some of the senior girls at dd's dance school have a schedule pretty much like this (And several go to an academic grammar school. 2 x 45 min grade...

Re: Blood Brothers

There are no actual children in the production, all parts ar3e played by adults

It is also not a show performed often by youth theatre as the performing rights are only available to the play version, not the musical. In the play version there is only one song Marilyn Monroe.

Re: Song for audition.

dh does not sit on audition panels themsleves his colleagues do and often they prefer to hear a well known song rather than a completely unknown one as they end up judging the song rather than the singer. A song that shows an acting journey is a good choice. The college dh works in is predominantly ...

Re: Annie Auditon song

I like it a lot. I guess it is a lot more modern but it doesn;t overly sound it and it is meant to be sung by children.

Saving it up for future reference.

Re: Annie Auditon song

I don;t know that song I will google it and have a listen. If she is going for Annie/an orphan then they won't want to hear for example a modern pop song or something from a pop based musical. They will want to hear something in a similar style (even if they don't say so) as it will make it easier t...

Re: Annie Auditon song

How old is your dd and what sort of role is she going for.

I would advise staying true to type so to find something that is a children's theatre role, not too modern, preferably with a bit of twang.

A lot depends on whether she is a potential Annie/orphan or a potential adult role (if youth theatre)
