Re: Why.. Can anyone help please
How about actually asking a question in the first place? If people know what info you are after, they will do their best to help!

Re: Low pay/no pay vs you have to start somewhere
Thanks for clearing that up Katy. I suppose a lot of people assume that getting representation is a ticket to the big time but probably it´s the ones (like your DD), who forge their own way will be the ones resilient enough to succeed. I think my friend is also worried about the extra numbers of stu...

Re: Low pay/no pay vs you have to start somewhere
I absolutely agree! In which other industry would a graduate be expected to work for free? A friend of mine has a DD starting at Performers in September but now she is panicking thinking that no-one comes out with any representation. I know via Facebook that a few graduates from there have been pick...

Re: Low pay/no pay vs you have to start somewhere
This is the other end of the whole process, isn't it? We, and they make so many sacrifices to get into a performing arts college, knowing full well that no matter how talented they are, the well-paid jobs are few and far between once they leave. My DD, who has just finished her first year is already...

Re: Medical insurance
My DD is with AXA. We pay £31 per month. The reason that we decided to take it out was mainly for the X-ray/ scan part, so that if she injures herself, she can get seen to and sorted asap. We added on things like physio, as although there is one at her college, he tends to be very busy and seems to ...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018
Does anyone know why Millennium are saying that student loans will not be available for those starting in September? DD is going into 2nd year and their loans haven't been approved yet since we applied in May but they are saying that continuing students will be ok. What is going on? There must be ma...

Re: GSA Musical Theatre - info needed!
What type of work has she been doing since then? Great to hear stories from the other end!bop2thetop wrote:My DD graduated from GSA last year and there were 38 in her year. And yes as others have said it is long hours and an intensive course as you would expect from a drama school.

Re: Level 6 diploma or BA Hons in Musical Theatre?
Just something to add about the BA hons. There is a bigger percentage of coursework at the unis. The degrees at the private colleges involve a lot, lot less coursework and usually have many more contact hours (30+) and the difference between a level 6 and degree is maybe that the degree students hav...

Thanks. He's going to college in London, just not sure if we'll get down there before he starts! Might have to see if we can arrange a trip. I will check their website. Having looked at the kit list, any discount would help! The staff at Capezio in London are so, so helpful, even recommending a sho...

Re: Tips for standing all the waiting...
I actually called dance direct the first time that I got DDs tap shoes, as I couldn't get them locally. She was a novice too and they were really helpful, recommended the Bloch ones and gave me tips on sizing. They did her just fine to start with.

I know of one girl who did it, had a fantastic time, learnt loads and then managed to get a place on one of the main shows for the next year. They also get to do the Christmas concert in London, I believe, which is a bonus too.

Re: How do you get good video for showreels?
Aren't there any professional companies who you could send all your videos to and they could send them back all looking lovely? :D Or alternatively a film and media studies student who needs a bit of practice! My DD's old film and theatre school (in Spain, so no good for you) used to put show reels ...

Re: Extracurricular training query for 12 year old
I would go for the keyboard option, just so that she can sit down for a bit!! No, seriously, it seems like she is doing plenty. Sometimes, less is more, instead of spreading yourself too thin trying to get experience in everything. Contemporary isn't necessary, if they have a good base in ball...
