Re: Auditioning for 2016
Ds has decided against auditioning for drama school but if he had GSA is the place that would have delivered everything he could possibly want - a gorgeous campus university outside London with fees fully covered by the student loan and a training recognised and sought after by West End productions...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
It does depend on the subject. I could have tried my hardest but never got an A in Maths or Physics!lynne wrote:Also, just to cut in here, I think getting high A level/BTEC grades is more about commitment and attitude than academic ability!

Re: Auditioning for 2016
RE GSA - it makes no difference whether the course is at a university or vocational college, if it is oversubscribed with suitable applicants, they have to find a way of whittling down the numbers and deciding between applicants. I am sure that every single vocational drama, dance or MT course has f...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
Hi Welsh Mum You appear to be very angry! I was only trying to give you insight from the universities point of view, If you choose not to accept what happens then that is really up to you. I am also in education and have much experience of the UCAS system. As I said earlier my husband is in charge ...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
Hi Welsh Mum If they get unconditional offers it is usually because they definitely want the student, but that does not mean that all those students with an unconditional offer will take up the offer. The problem with unconditional offers is that the student has to commit to accept the offer before ...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
Hi As the wife of someone who works in a University ( although not in MT!) and helps to set grade boundaries I thought I would shed a little light on the topic! Universities set the grades required based on a combination of things:1) The level of academic ability they think is required for the cour...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
Still seems odd that you need lower grades fir Adult Nursing or Mental Health Nursing than MT !! (University of Surrey require 3 B grades for both courses ). For Surrey Uni? I thought all course needed the same grades. If that's right then that makes it all very strange. I always thought it was Sur...

Re: not an empty nest...but need ideas on how to manage.
It's been 5 years since my youngest left to train in London, and I remember how lost I felt. Like you I missed the involvement, the constant singing, the busy lives we shared. But things do get better, though I have to confess 5 years in I am still sad when she goes back after a visit to us. I did m...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
Lots of acting courses do it differently. The RCSSD course ( accredited by University of London ) has very little written work (3 pieces in 3 years) it is a true vocational course with a great reputation. It is also extremely flexible about qualifications. The criteria is talent and potential, as it...

Re: Drama school after scoliosis
There was an article in the Observer newspaper magazine section about a v well known ballet dancer who trained after scoliosis as a teenager. I know it doesn't answer your question but shows it can be done! Interesting read, you can find it online.

I saw it a while ago and was blown away by it. I knew the songs but had never seen it before, it was a fantastic show, what a shame it is finishing. There are other shows that seem to go on and in forever !

Re: Year Off
My D was in a similar situation as yours many years ago! She had lots if recalls but no offers. Second time round she got offers from GSA, Mountview, RCSSD and reserve in Arts Ec. The main thing she did in her year out was work to get some money behind her which proved invaluable living in London wh...

Re: Do LAMDA exams help get you into drama school?
I don't think they will be any use getting into drama school, and would only do them for enjoyment purposes. Did the agent explain how exactly they would help?
