Re: Audition tips????

Hi sarah365, it's hard to be certain of what to say in the video, but I can give some advice on the basics of self-taping. A video taken on a phone or tablet is fine, but make sure you film in landscape orientation rather than portrait. This is so that your video's frame is the right shape for the c...

Re: messaging others on the forum

My understanding is that messages show up in your outbox until the recipient has viewed them, and only move to the Sent folder after they've been read. Sounds like maybe your recipients haven't checked their messages lately? I used to receive an email alert when a message had been sent to me, but re...

Re: Game of Thrones

They did do castings for GoT - one of DS's friends auditioned via agent late last year. Nina Gold is the casting director. I think they're currently filming the last season though, so wouldn't expect further auditions at this stage.

Children working away from home - any advice/tips?

DS (11) has been offered something that would involve filming abroad for a few weeks. Work and family commitments mean that we can't travel with him so he will be chaperoned and tutored. None of his previous work has involved time away from home, so just wondering if anyone with experience of a chil...

Re: Boys Dance Solo - Musical Theatre Extended BTEC 16+

Trundlemum, my DS is younger but has a similar issue. He is auditioning for a full-time performing arts school and has to do a short dance solo. He has some jazz and ballet training and has been in a professional show involving dance, but it isn't his strongest discipline and for various reasons we ...

Re: Sylvia young theatre school

Arts Ed fees are similar to SYTS. Students are accepted onto either the dance or the drama pathways, and the vocational curriculum is weighted differently for each pathway. Academics seem similar to SYTS, and they have their own sixth form. Not many boys in Years 7-11 (certainly fewer than SYTS). Pr...

Re: Sylvia young theatre school

Your DS's Australian training can't be that lacking if he's performed in 4 professional shows by age 12! I can understand that the idea of a "one-stop shop" vocational school where one fee covers training in all disciplines would be attractive if you're currently having to find separate cl...

Re: Matilda Tour London Callback

The emails we had did specify a role, even for first round auditions - but there was only one role that DS fit the brief for so that may have been why. It's a difficult decision. In your shoes I'd be tempted to offer your DS the choice of auditioning again this round or focusing on dance training an...

Re: Matilda Tour London Callback

Has he been called for Eric or Nigel for WE ensemble auditions? He would be likely to be at the upper limit of height for Eric, so might well be too tall by next April. If NIgel, he's probably still a bit on the small side and could afford to ask to defer for 6 months to get more dance training unde...

Re: Sylvia young theatre school

Lechia78, congratulations on your DS on being offered a place at SYTS. My understanding is that it is somewhat easier to gain a place for fee-paying applicants (as opposed to scholarship), and for boys, simply because the pool of applicants is smaller for each of those groups. However entry is still...

Re: Matilda Tour London Callback

Tricky one. If they keep asking your DS back, they obviously see something in him and want to see how he develops. The casting team are very approachable, and it is not unheard of for people to ask to defer an audition for 6 months to get more dance experience. Is he trying for a role where height m...

Re: Matilda Tour London Callback

For what it's worth, the rehearsal schedule for the tour seems the same as for the WE show in terms of Mon-Sat with Sundays and one day off during the week. So as far as opportunities to return home during rehearsals go, the circumstances will be the same for tour children being accommodated in Lond...

Re: New and in need of help

As Pandora says, 13 is a tricky age to start professional work, and a lot depends on his playing age rather than his chronological one. If he is small for his age and looks 11, then he might be in with a chance (directors often prefer the bonus of an older child's maturity behind a younger-looking f...

Re: Sylvia Young new to all this

Firstly, congratulations to your DD for being offered a place! Whether or not to take it up is, I think, a very personal decision. My DS wants to go to SY, and having toured a few schools SY is increasingly the place that I feel would be the best fit for him. DS is bright and creative, but not acade...

Filming from Feb 2018 was the last information I had - not sure which end of the month though.
