Re: Urdang Accommodation
My DS is 18 and at Mountview and has been living at Chester House this year. It is much cheaper than the other halls and includes the food. I think he is going to struggle to find a house share that is cheaper than this. He has made lots of friends as there are students there from Mountview, Urdang ...

Re: Millenium Loan Designation
I don't think the size of the school has any bearing on the student loan. My understanding is that it is because it is designated as a private university. The same is also true of Mountview, ArtsEd and London Studio Centre and you can only borrow £6000 for those too. Bird and Urdang seem to be eligi...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
You are right carricrafts. At Mountview (and I believe at ArtsEd) the course is the same whether you do the diploma or degree so both funding routes are available. I think if you do the diploma route with a Dada you can pay about £400 to get the degree also, but you can't have the student loan as we...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
Well done to your DD bethjinty66. If you don't have a Dada for Mountview you are eligible for a student loan which will be for maintenance as well as £6000 towards the fees. My DS is in his first year there and has a student loan which certainly helps although finding the rest is still tight. He abs...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
Also, re accommodation for Urdang students, it is worth checking out Chester House. It is much cheaper than the other private student halls as it is a bit further out and has students from Urdang, London Studios and Mountview. It is about a 35min walk from the tube station but there is a bus from ri...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
DS had a reserve offer for Mountview last year after their recall auditions in May and got offered a place on 8th June. Also I know people who had DaDa reserve places at both Laine (offered in June) and Bird (August) last year. Movement seems to happen after the last colleges have their recall audit...

Re: MT course auditions, a few questions
As far as I can remember they only sang one song in the first round. I know my DS had two prepared and gave them the choice. He had one more 'legit' song and a more contemporary one from Beauty and the Beast. I think they heard the Beauty and the Beast one although I couldn't swear to that. He is at...

Re: September 2015
DS is absolutely loving Mountview. He has long days but is absolutely buzzing whenever we get to speak to him. He is living in Chester House but has already teamed up with friends from the course to look for a house share in September. He cannot believe how much he has learnt already.

Re: MT course auditions, a few questions
I don't know if anything will have changed this year but from DS's experiences last year, the freestyle at Urdang was just for a few bars in a routine that they were taught on the day so nobody had prepared anything or taken their own music. The only audition he had where he did a solo of his own wa...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
I think it is just that tough. Last year Mountview said at the initial audition that they were looking to recall only 150 applicants. The recall was for two days and was held at the beginning of May. After day 1 of the recall they cut it by half. Those making it to day 2 got either an offer or a res...

Re: Auditioning for 2016
London Studio Centre offer degree courses so student loans are available, however I think you can only borrow £6000 the same as for Mountview and Arts Ed.
Good luck to your DD

Re: Musical Theatre courses that are NOT too dance-based
I think Arts Ed are less dance based than Urdang, Laine and Bird. DS applied last year (he is strongest in dance) and found the Arts Ed and Mountview auditions had less dance than the others he applied for (Urdang, Bird, Laine and LSC). He had offers from all but Arts Ed and eventually chose Mountvi...

Re: London College of Music
Bird is also via UCAS. It is like Urdang in that you have to go directly and through the UCAS route. DS was offered a place there last year and was very impressed with both Urdang and Bird but has chosen Mountview in the end.

Re: Auditioning for 2016
I don't know about Central, but the fees at Mountview are $13,500 and you can only borrow £6000 of that on the student loan as they class as a private institution even though the degree is validated by UEA. Having said that, my DS has just started there and is absolutely loving it. He is staying in ...
